@EUCommission , @DigitalEU Can one of you explain why the #eukidsact doesn't have any exemptions for community run or #opensource projects?

This proposal would kill not only the #fediverse including #mastodon, but also most #linux distros, #fdroid, #jolla, #volla, #murena's #eos, #grapheneos etc, for people in the #eu.

You're on #mastodon, do you really believe that this is where harm to children happens? Would we all be better off hanging out on #twitter (#x)?

It would force digital ID checks for most things online, even downloading apps from app stores. This would make any #linux distro with an app store illegal to use in the EU, since there are no exemptions for small or nonprofit providers. It would also reclassify games from "products" to "services".

Where are we going to hang out when #mastodon is killed by the #eukidsact, fellow Europeans?

With the threat of looming #ageverification for, basically, using the internet, I've started buying media and cancelling subscription services. You are, and I cannot stress this enough, *out of you tree* if you think I'm going to pay for music with my biometrics. Happy to pay for it with money, though! Can recommend Qobuz to anyone with similar priorities.

Also, what makes internet services with autoplay different from.. radio and TV? Why is autoplay online so dangerous that we "need" IDs?

After reading about the latest #chatcontrol vote, I just wanted to share an idea! When I was in school we were taught about something I think is called "democracy" (unsure about the spelling as this was 20 odd years ago), where the politicians that citizens vote for *represent the interests of their voters*. I get that this is a pretty radical idea but I think it might be worth trying in the #EU?

PIN codes do not have this issue. I also don't display PIN codes on my forehead when I sleep (as far as I know). I'm yet to see a deepfake of a PIN code. Etc..

After having had iPhones as work phones for the better part of the past 10 years, I shudder at faceID being suggested as a requirement to log in to an eID.
My iPhones have been unable to recognize me when I:
* had a stye in my eye
* had extracted a wisdom tooth
* got new glasses
* did my makeup differently
* put in an invisalign tray (they're what, 0.2mm thick?)

So when you see face matching as an eID requirement, imagine that you can't pay a bill because of a stye.
