Autumn garden joys in the neighborhood.

It's important to read to your cats.

A good write-up about the Pittsburgh Overpass Project!

“There’s just a feeling of depression, you know; it's like, what can I do?” Beattie said. “This is like every week, and it's only a couple hours every week, but it makes me feel like I'm doing something.”

One of the satellite election office sites is at Soldiers & Sailors in Oakland, on Wednesday Oct 7 and Thursday Oct 8.

Because that's before the deadline to register to vote, you can register, request a mail-in ballot, vote it, and submit it, all in one stop!

If you know any college students, tell them about this -- and tell them to tell their friends.

Nervous about voting by mail in Allegheny County because of Trump? If you've already requested a mail-in ballot, you can:

- Bring it to a satellite office--there will be several.

- Bring it downtown.

- Bring it to a ballot collection site.

- Bring the entire package to your polling place on election day

Most of the satellite election office sites will be open on two weekends: October 17, 18, 24 and 25.

I like to go to Homewood. There's usually a DJ, food truck, and community groups tabling!

The heirs to Hitler's Nazi party have almost captured a German state for the first time since WW2 and the first thing they did was thank Elon Musk 😞

Please, even if this seems a really tiny thing, stop using Twitter/X, stop linking to Twitter/X, stop doing anything that gives Twitter/X accounts visibility of any kind. Tell others to leave, especially organisations and media. He is using Twitter/X to promote actual full-on fascism by manipulating media discourse, and simply being there or sending traffic there helps him do that.

SECURITY INCIDENT ON MASTODON.BIDA.IM — ONGOING CREDENTIAL STUFFING CAMPAIGN ACROSS THE FEDIVERSE

An ongoing credential stuffing campaign is targeting Mastodon instances across the fediverse: compromised accounts are being used to post telegram spam links. You've probably seen the spam in your timeline, coming from various instances.

Our instance was hit too: starting around Aug 24, 2026, a bot logged into ~68 accounts on bida and later used some of them to spam. We've contained it locally, but the campaign is still active elsewhere — so this post is both an incident report for our users and a heads-up for other admins, with the commands we used.

Parker is a finalist in Best Floofy Tail.

I think the scratching post designer expected cats to play with the dangling ball from ground level, but Ilya says "Where's the challenge in that?!"

“In fact, in the first six months of this year, EVs in China displaced more oil than all of the UK used in the same period. A massive rise in electric heavy truck sales was responsible for the largest part of this oil displacement.”

Had some rain in Pittsburgh this evening.

The street slopes down from both sides to a storm drain in front of my house. I cleaned off the grate today, but when the rain is really heavy, it washes debris down and clogs it.

Wow! Hegseth covered up that Iran wiped out our main resupply base in Bahrain. That's why the Lincoln couldn't get what it needed. Sailors dealing with shortages and breaking mentally after 9 months. And tRump? "Fake news." Anyone surprised?

Great news: A mRNA cancer vaccine slowed the return and spread of melanoma when used in combination with cancer immunotherapy in a late-stage clinical trial. The results will be presented at an upcoming meeting.

Black folk: This is the kind of racism I get on fedi and why I don't feel safe here.
Two people on infosec.exchange: I'm going to reply with something racist that fits the kind of racism you say you experience here.
.art: *forwards reports for racism*
Infosec.exchange: *crickets*
Another Black person: Fedi is full of anti-Blackness
i.e mod: Report it to us! We'll listen and learn and fix it!
Me: well, here's two reports where there was a racism and you didn't fix it.
i.e. mod: nah they're fine
