Leica Monpan (Adox HR50), is hellish stuff. I was gifted two rolls, but I'm never buying it. The pictures may be spectacular, but I spent half an hour trying to get it on a reel and ended up having to cut it in half and put it on two reels.
It's worse than Kodak.
A while ago I bought a bunch of watch repair tools including a very pretty lathe. These will mostly be toys, but they'll also make for fantastic photographic subjects.
If there's any justice in the world, one day Robbie will go stratospheric. I honestly don't know any other YouTuber doing anything even remotely as significant.
Southwark is not South London! It's literally 500m from the square mile!
Battersea maybe. Clapham for sure.
I'm slightly tickled by the fact that somewhere in the UK right now there's at least one knob head with a disposable barbecue that thinks that message was just for them and is probably hiding in a hedge waiting for the Black Helicopters to turn up.
The collander was way cooler (and some pinhole through our hedge)
Some "wrong answers only" #eclipse photography
How the fuck do you find the focal length of a collander!
Telly said to use a pinhole...
Just registered a domain and setup email with @beasts in a few minutes (with full SPF, and DKIM and I didn't have to suffer at all).
Always impressive!
Some photos from a recent trip to Lindon.
An important distinction between wet and dry plate photography that I discovered at the weekend is that with dry plate you don't have to just take pictures of topless tattooed people with piercings! This was both a revelation, and quite a relief.
I popped in and asked these guys if I can take some photos inside the shop. I'm not saying he was excited, but he said I can have a go. I reckon if I go with a really stupid camera, that might cheer him up (Maybe all MPP, Technical and MicroFlex).
After a dry plate success, a couple a near fail, and an actual fail. Probably both two stops under. The sunlight was coming through a perspex window, and I'm not sure if that meant less uv than I expected.
First frame is a #KidakP300 vintage plate, the second a modern #JLaneDryPlate (very hnder exposed, but the contrast in the leaf is exactly what I wanted )
Unfortunately I overcooked the neg even more than the pre-announcment! I will end up retaking this one I think.
Are there people on here that have done much video recording of #Darkroom processes? What have you used for recording?
A #FilmPhotography exension to my general "We're building the Fraud economy" rantings:
I saw an instagram video the other day from a lady who'd recently started using film.
She ordered two boxes (10 rolls), of Portra 400 from Amazon, now I wouldn't do that, but it's a weird world if that's a crazy thing to do. (We'll ignore the fact that that's a good deposit on a half decent avocado for right there!)...
If that sounds hyperbolic:
There was a radio discussion the other day on You & Yours (BBC4 Radio 4 consumer issues programme).
They spoke to several people who had found a "natural sleeping remedy" available on Amazon. They found them effective, kept taking them, had issue. Turned out these were prescription sleeping meds. All the buyers they spoke to had become addicted.
Amazon said, per T&Cs, they were not responsible.
Explain that to me.
combine this with the destruction of any "normal" job market, the endemic of online gambling (which we've allowed games to drag literal children in to).
We've allowed Amazon, etsy, vinted, ebay etc to essentially be treated as "common carriers" for physical goods (some stolen), than side step every regulation we have, without taking *any* responsibility.
We've built a distopia, and it's hard to avoid the conclusion that it is only just getting started.
