One of many things that's irksome about "are LLMs conscious" discourse is that humans are by and large fucking awful at telling what is and isn't conscious.

People got vibesick over ELIZA for fuck's sake! A lot of people playing Portal got broken up over melting down the Weighted Companion Cube, which is categorically inert even in the plot of the game.

At the same time, a lot of folks reject the humanity of neurodiverse people or people of color. We plain suck at determining consciousness.

That we often despise a man on account of some trifle, arises not so much from the act considered in itself, as because we conjecture of what such a man would be capable in other instances. This is why we so easily despise a man who accepts an insult without resenting it.

This little anole looks like he's asking me to join him on a quest - if I dare.

Another case I like to use `Cow` is for catch all error messages. Because if you don't have to format the string, the string is already in memory; just use it. But when you do need to add more information, you can.

This is not to say that catch all errors are good. They aren't. Use `thiserror` and don't reify strings at all. #rustlang

I don’t know folks, should we let the world’s richest psychopath win?

“If you don’t use AI you’re going to get left behind.”

Gosh, I sure hope so. I see where you’re going and it sucks.

One sad aspect is that at this rate, maybe in 5 years, it will be hard to even explain to new generation of people entering tech exactly what they missed. Kinda like trying to explain why the internet was a better place years ago.

It’s disturbing to me how, at rallies for republicans, the USA chant has become a way to silence dissent and cover your ears. A way to block out thought, even. The irony escapes them, I guess.

I can't boost properly but this is quite a thread:

@GossiTheDog

There’s absolutely shit tons of exploits for PHP2Shell on GitHub and basically none of them actually work to RCE as nobody can figure out ASLR properly.

Which is good, because patching is going to take a long time.

One more reason to despise #Kushner…

Computers were not a mistake.

The Internet was not a mistake.

The mistake was allowing everything to be about money and power rather than community building.
