It is still almost unbelievable to me that I have to *keep track* of which cables are fast or slow USB-C.

Sometimes, I think back on Fitz & Starts, which closed (I am shocked to learn) four years ago. Its bakery was so, so good. Their coconut cake? Their Shaker lemon pie? Their Gâteau Breton?

As far as I know, nothing in town even comes close. The Metropolitan Bakery was maybe the best fallback, and now they’ve closed.

Anyway, would love to find a Shaker lemon pie someplace.

Today on Horror Movie Month… Cat Cam (2026)! #🎃

I am now upgrading to macOS 27, having entirely skipped macOS 26. I regret nothing. Yet.

I feel like I might need a Polygon replacement. In the last few months, the RSS feed has started to feel like it's all teaser, no content. I don't need the whole article, but I get "Tom Cruise's obscure masterpiece is now streaming", and the body is a paragraph about other movies, and you have to click to see what they're really going to talk about. Who has the time? Not this guy.

I've now gotten two hotends totally jammed up trying to print Bambu Dual Silk. I'll try to clear these but… ugh. It's hard with old man eyes, no magnifying rig, no blowtorch, and only two hands.

A couple weeks ago, I attended Local-First Conf, in Berlin, and it was really great! I should blog about it soon. Meantime, here's a link to the talk I gave… but check out the rest of their channel and the playlist. There was a host of good talks!

DigitalOcean has apparently deleted their base bookworm image. This is lousy [for me].

Claude, reviewing my code, describes part of it as "ugly and dead, but not a build-breaker". This is the kind of non-sycophantic review I'm here for.

Trying to decide whether I think molecular beam epitaxy can be called 3-d printing.

I really like bagels and cream cheese, but could they be made more agentic somehow?

I am curious to talk to anybody I know who does or has operated a CNA (CVE numbering authority).

This article on Arabic text rendering has been making the rounds, but it's so good that I don't mind maybe being the nth person you see post it. https://lr0.org/blog/p/arabic/

At this point, skipping macOS 26 has become a silly point of pride, but I guess I really will upgrade to iOS 27.

After 21 years in this biz, I have finally added "deliverability" to my spell checker's dictionary.

Immediately after I installed mouse management software…

Somebody should come up with a programming language that can catch type errors before the program runs…

Cookie consent pop-ups are horrible to begin with, but now imagine their impact on users with cognitive issues.

"You have 5 gb free on your disk." Woah!

Quit Firefox.

"You have 16 gb free on your disk." Huh.

Reboot.

"You have 39 gb free on your disk."

I get it, but this is ridiculous.
