There is some efforts to develop the NetBSD compat-linux for make it compatible enough to run also Steam, but the latest official blogposts are pretty old today.
I wonder, are there progresses for this?
I should test if at least the gog installer and games works.

@Oregon_Pacifist the Halloween skin has a lot of nice touches, well done!
This brown/orange/black color scheme is a nice combination, perhaps could you think a variation of retro-gaiden base skin with this palette?
I'm trying to install NetBSD on my main PC. but I have different errors at boot from USB with different USB keys.
I think NetBSD is somewhat sensible on the brand/controller of the key you use.
Mine are pretty much cheap low quality keys that however fits for the usual task of data transfer I use them for, probably they are not compatible.
I cannot use the DVD version for the lack of the reader there.
What else try, looking I'm not picking a new USB key soon?
@pertho I believe to remember you were interested to see how this runs under compatibility.
This time, a demonstration of Stellaris running on GhostBSD with the native Linux port, with a couple of mods too + DLCs.

#NetBSD help: I'm trying pkgsrc under Debian, but the programs I tried to build with it cannot be compiled because the url for some components gives 404.
I tried both the stable and current branches as indicated here.
Bootstrap works regularly.
Do I'm missing something?
My suggestion is picking one depending if you like have or not some stuff already set up at installation, or if you pick a BSD system for the first time.
The only tool that GhostBSD add of its own is a graphical frontend for install packages, but pkg is easy like apt on debian that I did not felt the need to touch it. If you need to format disk, configure files, or use wine, you have to resort to the base system tools.
My experience with GhostBSD: it is good if you want begin to learn FreeBSD or if you want a desktop set up at installation and do you like the software choices proposed. However, it does not modify the base FreeBSD system (in opposite of what derivative linux distributions do), and its repository is fundamentally a copy of FreeBSD locked to a certain version (the 25 is tied with the Freebsd 15.0).
The same issues you have on GhostBSD are the same you met on FreeBSD.
Neverwinter Nights continues to crash at the module selection screen, but I'm able to say the issue happens when the game tries to load the module list, that most time fails. If succeed, the game works.
Its a game engine issue, not a graphic one.
No idea of the cause, somebody knows more?

5 - Enable two services in rc.conf.
Open rc.conf with a text editor
ee /etc/rc.conf
then set
linux_enable="NO"
and add
linux_vlk_enable="YES"
also check if these are missing or set different:
linux_mounts_enable="YES"
linux_vulkan_enable="YES"
each entry on a single line, follow the formatting and do not change it.
Save the changes.
6 - Reboot
2 - Open the text editor, copypaste the workaround, and save it with a new name in one of the folders above. You can give the script a new name, but you have to keep the name consistent everywhere inside the script.
ee /usr/share/etc/rc.d linux_vlk
3 - Edit these lines:
Line 5:
# PROVIDE: linux_vlk
Line 13:
rcvar="linux_vlk_enable"
Line 110
linux_vlk_start()
Save (or overwrite) the file.
If you want set up a parallel service, without modify the file, this option is safe because updates could change the linux script.
The procedure has little differences.
1 - You can put the script with a new name, without delete or overwrite the original one, both in the main system folder
/etc/rc.d
otherwise, much better and highly advisable on a BSD system, under the software folder
/urs/local/etc/rc.d
4 - Set the permission of the linux script if they are different, as precaution.
chmod 555 /etc/rc.d/linux
5 - Enable two services in rc.conf.
Open rc.conf with a text editor
ee /etc/rc.conf
then add if these are missing or set different:
linux_mounts_enable="YES"
linux_vulkan_enable="YES"
each entry on a single line, follow the formatting and do not change it.
Save the changes.
6 - Reboot
2 - Replace the old script with the new one.
You can delete first the old file with
rm /etc/rc.d linux
then open a text editor, copypaste the script and save the new file as linux.
ee /etc/rc.d linux
Or you can open the old file with a text editor, copypaste the new script over the old, and overwrite the original file.
3 - Edit these lines in the script:
Line 11:
name="linux"
Line 13:
rcvar="linux_enable"
Then save (or overwrite) the file.
You can install the script replacing the system one, caller "linux", or use it as a parallel service and disable the default one.
All commands have to be done with superuser privileges, with sudo from normal user or switch to root with "su"
For replace the original system script
1 - Create a backup of the original file.
cp /etc/rc.d/linux /etc/rc.d/linux.backup
In case you lack of GPU acceleration on GhostBSD 25 and FreeBSD 15 using Linuxulator, it is caused by a bug in that component where it does not expose correctly the video cards to the system.
There is this workaround, but has some lines that have to be fixed, depending where you want install the script, before it can work.
Below I put a guide how fix and install the script.

ReactOS for years was a relatively obscure project, but in these times is getting a meaningful push to reach the compatibility it promises.
Maybe the Windows 11 disaster has fired up the urgency of the project...
