Here's a couple of Swift constructs I'm pondering.

Taking the scenario of having (x, y, z) co-ordinates that need to be passed into a function (in a different struct declaration), does it make a difference to put the co-ordinates in a struct versus a tuple?

struct Coords {
let x: Int; let y: Int; let z: Int
}

func doSomething(coords: Coords) {
print("\(coords)")
}

let point = Coords(x: 1, y: 2, z: 0)
doSomething(coords: point)

versus:

func doSomething(coords: (x: Int, y: Int, z: Int)) {
print("\(coords)")
}

let point = (x: 1, y: 2, z: 0)
doSomething(coords: point)

It occurred to me that this is basically the situation with droids in the Star Wars Universe. Droids as slaves was a storyline in the movie "Solo: A Star Wars Story".

I have a new game: when I see a list of "bug fixes" from anywhere I try to guess which were caused by vibe coding. Often it's pretty obvious.

This is the best description I've seen of the new Apple Watch Audio Intelligence, aka Live Rewind and Siri Recap. Specific explanation starts at 3:10 in the video.

It is interesting the AI companies are calling for "slowing down" and regulation (not to mention fear mongering over "losing control"), right about the time they are running out of data to steal for training thus hampering their scaling plans.

Looked at from the right angle this seems like a PR campaign to provide a smokescreen for the hard limits of the AI business model.

As I've been adding saving of settings through UserDefaults I've discovered my app's logic path doesn't update the values when changed, but only after the settings are looked at after updating. Now I have to do some refactoring to make sure changes are saved immediately. Fun times.

Adding: my app changes system state, but only knows the state when observed. So the logic currently is observe-change-observe to know the current state. I need to save the settings on the "change" since there might not be a subsequent "observe" before the app quits.

What will Apple do if Trump decides to issue an edict to rename the Mississippi River or even rename a state?

Apple Maps should now be considered unreliable, on par with the AI school map filled with gibberish for state names.

Update: Media lie, no helmet storage at bike lots. Still worth biking to the Fair.

Awesome, the Minnesota State Fair is improving the bicycle parking, better racks and now helmet storage. I've been carrying my helmet with me since I started biking to the Fair:

"Folks who bike to the Fair will find new bike racks and expanded capacities at each of the Fairgrounds’ three free bike lots...Secure helmet storage is also available..."

This song is about fancy shoes, but not really.

CW the song is about school violence, but nothing in the video shows anything like that.

(I see someone posted a cover of this song, but it's not at all like this original.)

As I gingerly head into localization for my app, I have immediately discovered two things:

1) Based on web search, localization has been consumed by "AI" which is horrifying. I would never trust a slop machine to give the correct meaning (see point #2).

2) Even seemingly simple concepts like the "quit" (as in the app) menu item engenders a lot of nuance depending on the language.

I just discovered the Fediverse (English) Wikipedia page has a huge section on AT Protocol and I question why. It seems like excessive promotion of Bluesky and its protocol that is not compatible with ActivityPub, both technically and in spirit. Illustrating bridging isn't the same as compatibility. Might as well add sections for other random network protocols like XMPP (Jabber).

It turns out the crash happens with LabeledContent followed by Picker in an HStack. If the Picker is before the LabeledContent there's no crash.

Maybe if I add some magical modifiers to the LabeledContent it can work…

RE: https://ieji.de/@puppethead/116737685091469137

I've narrowed down my app crash to using Picker in my view. The frustrating thing is it works in the preview, but crashes at runtime. The good news it's a single control, but yeesh how did it get so unstable?

Now to deconstruct the Picker to figure out specifically what's causing this.
