Dang, recently acquired a treadmill to be able to walk while working, and it makes me sweat so much that I can't just wear clothes. I know I sweat quite a lot in general (hence why my favourite sports activity is swimming), but it's still astonishing.
Though, being able to do this at home has the advantage of being able to partly undress, no witness 👌
Capitalism is about being constantly afraid that your neighbour (person or company) will take a bigger slice of the pie than you.
Communism is about being afraid that there won't be enough for the population.
#passionSondages :thaenkin:
If "AI" were a mere tool and not a political narrative you wouldn't need to headline "X used AI to do Y" all the time. Anything anyone does while "AI" is involved must reify "AI"'s power and relevance.
Because it's not "just a tool", it's a bigger project of disenfranchisement some willingly embrace.
@tante Considering that there are multiple studies coming out about AI use lowering test scores, decreasing intelligence, etc. and not by pittens, but by LARGE decreases.
...yes, it is a tool of control. A dumb populace that will believe a machine is an easy to control populace. Make no mistake, they want us to be dumb.
Resist by refusing to use it.
I just realised that most Black Mirror episodes are actually about the orphan-crushing machine.
Here they come, my first issues with Wayland after moving out of X11 a few weeks ago.
Some desktop apps based on Webkit don't work, and have to switch to the X11 bridge.
Something that always annoys me is that when I install a very very old PHP app and its Composer dependencies, it works, but when I do it with a very very old Node.js app, some dependencies don't work anymore for some bullcrap reason.
Today, I'm reconstructing RAID.
Wish me luck.
I've re-watched "The Butterfly Effect" (from 2004) , and I was surprised by the ending.
The reason is that, apparently, when I watched it about twenty years ago, I actually watched the director's cut, which has an alternate ending that I actually "like" more. Sure, it's way more sad, but it sort of makes sense
Just for fun I found an order of 2*32GB of RAM I did a while back.
Cost me 337€ in 2021.
If I wanted the same stuff today, it would cost me 853€.
These AI fuckers are totally crazy.

The sole existence of this post, made by GITHUB, FFS, means that certain engineers learn absolutely fucking nothing.
It partly explains why I started this job with passion and now I want to leave it with anger and bitterness.
Meanwhile, in Florida, the attorney general is having a field day:

For more fun (and my current example), here's my script:
echo "" ; while [ true ] ; do ls -l backup.tar.gz ; ls -lh transfer.tar.gz ; df /var/backup ; df -h /var/backup | tail -n 1 ; print "\x1B[6A" ; sleep 0.5; done
That's my "comfort monitoring tool": seeing bytes values rise to have an idea of the current bandwidth, but also the "human-readable size" of these backups, and the space it occupies.
Using "sleep" after it helps in making the process less greedy on cpu+disk resources.
Something that can seem purely cosmetic but is actually really cool: ANSI escape codes.
Today: I need to execute a script in a while loop, and see the output, but I don't care about previous output: only real-time info is important.
So instead of filling my terminal with too much useless output, I execute this on every iteration:
> print "\x1B[3A"
This moves the cursor 3 lines up.
Then the script erases previous output.
Seems like live-refresh.
