I was going to alter the foot detail as I didn't like it, but I'm glad to see they've evolved the design slightly to make them even widths, so that's a better look.
I've assembled the flat packs, and set the cabinet into the baseboard to get a tight fit to the wall. I think I want a kick plate below too but will leave that decision until later.
Now cutting shelves from scrap I have around, and edge banding them.
I started sketching corner cabinets for a tight bathroom, figuring I'd build them from scratch, but then found half of this pair at a local store, but not the lower section. I did find that online, so got them in.
There are various issues to deal with though. I want four more shelves than they provide, and pegs & peg holes for several more shelf positions. Plus the doors open the wrong way so need to be swapped, hardware should be black not silver, and need a different top surface.
A final element of my autumn harvest today was #rhubarb! Crazy I know, it's normally only a spring & early summer thing, but this fall in the cool weather the plant is quite happy. Our plant has normally died right back by late summer.
So I've harvested some stalks and just stewed them up with sugar (they need a little more this late in season) for use in yoghurt.
Also nice on toast!
Thought I was finished with #garden prep for #frost, but then remembered I hadn't picked any hops yet! Back out into the cold.
The vines are nicely productive this year, and I'm glad I got a bowl of the little green beauties picked.
Not making beer this fall, but I do want to make a hop syrup for experimental NA beverage use!
The long thin tomatoes are San Marzano, the tasty sauce tomato.
I didn't plant them this year, but they showed up among the potatoes from remnants of last year's crop.
Further to those old green-tomato toots of mine I boosted, here is the big bowl of green tomatoes I just nabbed out of the garden before tonight's frost could make them mushy.
I'll hopefully find time to turn them into pickles in the coming days. Bit of a job, that.

Made it out to the orchards, and got a couple of bags of apples. There will be pies!
We didn't bother with the wagon ride out to the trees, as the apples are all done. One can still go out and pick up windfalls off the ground for free, though they're getting scarce now they say.
Orchard's season wraps up on Sunday we were told (Mountain Orchards).
I think we missed the pick-your-own phase of apple season, but going to go get some from a local orchard anyway.
I'm always a bit skeptical in the shops this time of year, whether you're getting fresh-picked or they're cleaning out the storage apples.

Dessert is going to be off the hook, as we just had a visit at the door. The neighbours made a nice big carrot cake for us!

Dudes even bought into an automated scheduler that sends appointment texts and reminders, but then doesn't show up, and doesn't bother texting you to tell you he'll be late/AWOL.
Dealing with #contractors is such a pain – every step, from finding them, to quoting, to scheduling, to the work quality, the completion & payment.
That's why I do most things myself. But some things need specialized equipment or more effort than I want to expend as I get older.
A contact for some eavestrough work: "I'll see you at 10am, or a bit earlier, I hope you're an early riser."
I took THAT to mean he'll be late or not show up at all. Looks like he's meeting those cynical expectations.

I added whole wheat and rye flour, and used sourdough starter, and got a nice dough kneaded up yesterday.
It rose overnight, mostly in the fridge, and seemed ready to go into the oven late this morning.
A bit of bread experimentation happening this week. Began on Sunday, towards producing an Ezekiel bread, which I'd read is a bunch of grains and legumes etc often sprouted, then ground into flour and made into a loaf.
Changing it a bit –did a three-day soak w twice a day water changes. Used a wide range of grains and legumes/pulses I had anyway.
Didn't see much point in drying, grinding, then rehydrating, so I semi-dried for a couple of hours then ground while still hydrated…
Yay Canada's Anne Carson wins Nobel Prize for literature, for a deep body of work, though she's probably not well known outside literary circles.
