When I started with #ActivityPub for #WordPress, it was a small experiment. Now almost 4 out of 10 #Fediverse servers are WordPress sites, and it is still growing, slowly but steadily. Come and join us @activitypub.blog 🎉
PHP Foundation’s budget is about 700k a year. It’s used on something like 40 million websites. Almost no company who uses it contributes anything and many people work on it for free.
The latest trend is cybersecurity and AI vendors have realised they can vampire off its security for publicity (money).
Perhaps the world would be a better place if those orgs who rely on it just contributed sponsorship to the foundation, and vendors didn’t monetise vulnerabilities for themselves.
I asked what birds you’d like me to draw, and you really delivered! 🖍️

In the wake of the compromise of the eMudhra Intermediate CA, we strongly encourage all Mastodon administrators to make sure their systems are up-to-date.
For those using our official Mastodon container images, we just rebuilt them (with the same tags) so they contain the latest updates to the list of CA certificates. Please update them as soon as possible.

I'm sooo disappointed by this news. I was absolutely convinced the devroom would be accepted: there is always such a lack of diversity at #FOSDEM and this track would have brought a breath of fresh air 🥲
Huge thanks to @RosannaSibora and @Gina for spearheading the initiative. Let's try again in 2028!

Just scheduled our next book club meeting for Nov 24: This time we’re reading “Exit Party” by Emily St. John Mandel, which just came out last month. I’ve previously read “Station Eleven” and “Sea of Tranquility”, really liked both, so looking forward to this one! We’re usually 6-10 people for the discussion, via Zoom, 1:30-2h, in English. Join us: https://www.meetup.com/unread-bookclub/events/316979639/
(This is the 50th book we’re reading, since 2017. I’m impressed, if I may say so myself. 😅)

@Mastodon Great thx. Also thx to @codinghorror & team for providing that excellent piece of software.
Something I've noticed while on book tour for the past couple of weeks is that Mastodon is a really good way to let people know about bookstore events. So many people I've met on the road have told me that they found out about my book tour from me or other folks on the fedi. I think it's partly because so many book-loving people are on Mastodon. But also if you compare Mastodon to places like Bluesky or Insta, the community here has a higher percentage of actual humans vs. bots or operatives.
Heh. I misremembered the date--thought it was today, but looks like it was October 5. On that day, 10 years ago, I posted a link to Mastodon on Hacker News, with the title "Show HN: A new decentralized microblogging platform". That it made it to the front page ended up bringing the first 5,000 users, setting the project on the trajectory it's on today.
