Don't make decisions:
1. In the first hour after waking.
2. After 7pm.
3. On fewer than 7 hours of sleep.
4. When angry, hungry, thirsty, intoxicated, or noticeably unwell.
5. After a setback, bereavement, embarrassment, insult, recent injury, or other besmirchment.
6. When within a conflict of interest, emotion, or principle.
7. At all, ideally.
Viciously attack those who would compel you otherwise, using any weapons at hand.

Every new camera body: 15 stops of DR! Dual gain! Open gate! 8K!
Every new lens: F1.2! 1 molecule depth of field!
Every YouTuber offering advice: Overexpose by 1.7! Light for flexibility in post!
Meanwhile, every cinematographer whose work we all admire: Underexposes every shot, crushes the blacks and/or blows out the windows, aggressively motivated lighting, deep focus, shoots 35mm even in digital, looks amazing.
I don’t get it. When did we stop wanting cinema to look like cinema?

Perpetually bemused by this madness of huge visible microphones obscuring people’s faces in videos. There are fantastic wireless lav mics, and documentary-quality shotgun mics, that are readily available and often cheaper. It looks so amateurish to me; grotesque and janky and egotistical. Bizarre aesthetic, and sonically unnecessary. Ugh!
I am saddened by recent events. The more events I learn about, the sadder I am.
Dropped in on instagram again after a year or so away. First up was “I’m sad about 9/11, and here’s an ad for tootsie rolls”, and second was a US runner selfie, smiling and showing the finger-knife thing they wear to fend off rapists or muggers or whatever the fuck they have over there now. What a bonkers country.

I dearly love this janktastic thing, and its nerdy, weirdo OS. I now do 100% of my writing on it. It can't do the heavy lifting of the big MacBook Pro, but it's a far more delightful thing to use (Linux troubleshooting notwithstanding!).
