This is such a self own. It’s not “wow we got massive improvements” it’s actually “we stopped doing something obviously stupid”.

My favourite bit is where “extra lines of code” are touted as productivity gains in software development. No real developer thinks that just producing more code is meaningful.

It has to translate to what the customer gets eg more features, less bugs. Thankfully the article points out that the actual returns are marginal.

Why are we taking all these gen-AI dickheads seriously? Anthropic is chasing 5 gigawatts of power for their speculative data centres in NSW.

That's many times more than existing data centre capacity.

There is _literally_ not enough power generation in NSW to support it, and no chance that much capacity will be added anytime soon.

It's not credible. These companies are full of shit. I'm tired of people, and especially governments taking them seriously.

I've heard some folks rebuff the criticism of NVIDIA's circular financing, characterising it as good old vendor financing. Which is of course very common.

However, NVIDIA directly invests in its customers, and backstops specific deals.

This is not vendor financing.

It's sketchy as fuck.

In the case my boost is not approved, the context here is Atuin adding AI bullshit.

RIP. Another good project falls. Time to uninstall it.

Firstly, congrats to all the people who worked so hard on this!

Secondly, it’s ridiculous that this was even an issue.

It is emblematic of the bad-faith Google has when “complying” with regulation.

What happens to the software industry as companies stop hiring and training juniors because of “AI”?

Especially with the regular attrition due to burn out, career change, or retirement.

You get lots of people who can vibe code, but have little expertise.

I fully expect to see many disastrous incidents over the next few years as companies ship software they don’t understand.

That’s right. Keep saying no. Just say no to everything. It’s working heaps well, keep it up. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-04-05/liberal-party-oppose-voice-to-parliament/102188290 #auspol
