I'm looking to hire a project manager!

I'm working on a project with materials scientists and physicists to build stacked quantum heterostructures, which have potential interesting properties as semiconductors, etc. It's a crazy process that involves crystal growers, driving microscopes with an Xbox controller, a adiabatic demagnetization refrigerators, and exfoliation with scotch tape. We need a project manager to help us ... well, manage the project.

Fine to ask me questions here or at ricci at cs dot utah.edu

@jgilbert @DeliaChristina I’ll just post this here again. Just remember that these men were somewhere in the middle and women are surrounded by them. No one on the left side showed up.

In addition to Musk's DOdGiE Pentagon hacked

Personal data from military personnel both living and deceased accessed

Hackers were in the Pentagon for more than 6 months

Maybe the hackers got some Epstein files

Everybody in the US should check their voter registration just before their local registration deadline

The Republican party is more actively than ever removing millions of people from the voter rolls

The amount of effort they go through to keep you from voting is proof to the power of your vote

an hour of FBI training videos on how to redact Trump's name from the Epstein files and logging the redactions per response to Allison Gill's lawsuit

Seems like that list of redactions should be released

FBI spent millions of dollars in overtime pay to protect Trump, we should be able to see the records

4/4 seems like an inappropriate place to stop, for Rush we should go to 15/17 or some other difficult time signature

Ged mentions those as well :)

PS/4

And Lerxst trashed at least one hotel room, but apologized for it in the morning

Ged confirms that last tour was meant as a thank you to the fans, the reverse chronological set and stage was his idea

In chapter 7 Geddy channels his inner @futurebird

----
Part of Sting's signature sound with the police was all those loosely double-tracked vocals.
He sounded like a bunch of Stings.
A hive of Stings?
----

It's 17 hours with bonus material and well worth a full listen for any Rush fan

4/4

The book also has lots of history on how he and Alex got started, then eventually the new guy joined the band

Lots of mentions of other musicians, including hommages to friends and family Ged has lost over the years

Many drug mentions as well

Ged covers the origins of the dryers and the chicken rotisseries, playing in the rain in Brazil and many challenges over the decades

He has a specific message for those who think Freewill ignores social responsibility

3/

Mengele took particular interest in Geddy's mom and her sister, drawing blood from them every day for experiments

Luckily a nurse helped them and their mother flee to another camp

The camp they were in was freed and without knowing the Germans had surrendered Ged's mom saw through a window the guards had their hands up and said, "Look, now they're saluting Hitler with both hands."

As Mel Brooks says, lampoon and make fun of the Nazis

2/

Listened to Geddy Lee's autobiagraphy, "My Effin' Life" this weekend

It was great to hear it in his ( and sometime Alex' ) voice

Everybody should listen to Chapter 3 about what the Nazis did to his family and the families of many others

As Geddy's mom used to always say, "It could happen again"

Both of Ged's parents were holocaust survivors

Vancouver has proper Überaschungseier! Not the fake things available in the US

Oh, and maple everything!

There was Fußball stuff everywhere, now that world cup is done, that should be settled down

We were in what turned out to be an upscale mall when the final finished and suddenly is was busier than SCaLE between talks at LAX

Haven't been to FOSDEM, but don't think it was that busy

All 3 restaurants are listed as LGBTQ+ friendly, there were pride flags and colours all over the place

MacLeod's Books on Pender and Richards was fun. It's a mess of books. If you find something you like buy it because it might not be there the next day, as I found out

There are at least two other book stores within a few hundred meters of MacLeod's

Near MacLead's on Richards is a massage place that spouse reports was fantastic with true deep tissue massage

PiCaDo was quick and relatively inexpensive

I think it's run by @futurebird 's cat, so maybe you can get a discount code

Alternatively, the site says it's Pizza Cafe Donair, but I think that's just a front

More boba shops than you can shake a straw at

Alex was happy to recommend a vodka flavour, the blackcurrent was indeed tasty

Wish I'd had time to explore more of the Kosak menu ( and order the pickled platter again ). They do have some stuff for take away, but we didn't get back for it

Vancouver has more great options than you can eat through in a week!

Really enjoyed Kozak Ukranian restaurant in Gastown. Alex/Oleg was entertaining

The star of the meal was the pickled platter

The borsh and sourdough were good. Kidling's pierogies didn't last long enough for me to try

The honey cake looks just like the pictures we saw. It's a light flavour, so more eye candy than sugar candy, but definitely glad we got a piece
