It made me wonder, has anyone got an original 1960’s Mathmos lava lamp…and if so, does it still work?
Assuming the bulb would have been replaced in this time…but is the wax still intact and functional without going cloudy?
If so…it’s shows us how much built in obsolescence has crept in during the last 60 odd years.
"Combine it with the settlement that Meta agreed to pay to the 47 states, and you get $42 billion just in those cases, nearly equal to the company's entire profit for the first half of 2026."

A Halloween costume, a genie, and a historical mystery--DESIRES, KNOWN is $2.99USD in ebook until 10/31.
Saturday started out absurd and has continued in that vein.
I'm not averse to this, but there were other events planned, fa cry-eye.
"Everything went according to plan, until Bea drove the stake into the monster's heart..." DAYWALKER'S LEMAN (Tales of the Sanguinant #1) is $2.99USD (and CAD) in ebook, until 10/31.

The forecast swears a solid week of rainy weather will move in tomorrow. I'm hopeful, but I've been hurt before...
This is super weird. What's next, an "AI" startup (founded by a guy who "wrote" a hagiography of Zuckerberg) taking over the Author's Guild, via that "Human Authored Certification" bullshit?
*touches earpiece* Oh. Huh.
Ummmmm...
Because it was ProWritingAid's "donation" that kicked off the whole NaNo "no, no no, the plagiarism machine is GOOD actually, and if you don't let it steal your work you're ABLEIST" thing, so far as I recall.
So, wait, has NaNoWriMo rebranded as "Novel November", paid for by ProWritingAid, which used to be a spell/grammar checker but now is (you guessed it) an "'AI' grammar checker"--in short, yet another way for a griftslop machine to grab human-written text?
Do I have that right?
There's even rain in the forecast. I am wishing, waiting, hoping.
The fog has burned off, but there's still plenty of cloud cover, plus a slight chilly breeze rattling dry leaves and half-bare branches. Perfect weather for strong black tea with buttered toast.
When a nobleman came in to the tavern and put a note on the board, the monster hunters went to check it out. Laughter erupted.
"A gazebo? Quick, someone get Eric!"
Then the bounty caught their attention.
"That's a lot of gold. Why?"
"This gazebo," the nobleman said, "was made by Baba Yaga."
Another Sons of Ymre sale! JAKE (Sons of Ymre #2) is $1.99USD (and CAD) in ebook at these retailers, until 11/3.
Good golly but it's a lovely, chilly, foggy autumn morn!
I oughta make some gingerbread.
walking the dog in heavy fog, whistling an off-key rendition of Pachelbel's Canon
not sure if the crows are singing along, yelling at me to shut up, or think I'm lost and are trying to orient me by screaming
I want software that actually *works*, not constant “updates” producing jankier and jankier pieces of slopcoded shite.
Boxnoggin looking at me like I am PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE for the weather he dislikes will never not be hilarious.
If only I were a quarter as powerful as my dog is convinced I am.
I'm at the point where I don't even want opt-in "'AI' capability" in any software I'm forced to use, because the griftslop bastards will absolutely steal everything, nailed down or not, EVEN IF the settings are turned to "no, no, absolutely not, HELL no."
All of which is to say I caught my toe in the sheet and essentially fell face-flat before even getting out of bed this morning.
Let the Saturday games begin.
