When it comes to BSD, I've only ever really used OpenBSD on servers, and the occasional time I'd fire up NetBSD on the Dreamcast.

If I were to dive into trying desktop BSD, which way would you go or have you gone? I haven't kept up, and honestly, from a desktop perspective, have zero idea of where to start, and it's high time I started expanding my knowledge to user-facing parts.

(Target machine, if viable, is a Dell XPS 13 9370 Developer Edition; the ones that shipped with Ubuntu by default.)

Thoughts, suggestions, guides, opinions welcome.

Today I learned that https://in.tern.et/products/winrar-archive-messenger-bag-prod is a thing. If I were a bag person, this would be awesome to have.

It's Bandcamp Friday!

It's time to get out there and support your favorites who publish on the platform. Bandcamp doesn't take a cut today, so more money goes to the artist!

If you're not sure of any, I've got a few you could check out!

• @revengeday
• @mayazimmerman
• @aeva
• @lukhash
• The Stop Bits (@veronica, @ActionRetro, and Taylor and Amy of The Taylor and Amy Show)

And my dearest, not-on-Fedi, local artists Jillian Aversa and zircon!

What iOS and macOS Mastodon client(s) are people using these days?

I’ve just been using a PWA on iOS and the website on desktop for, like, the last 1.5 years, but after avoiding the Liquid Glassification Hellscape during the *OS26 cycle while still being on older OSes, I’ve lost touch with what’s good nowadays.

Happy Star Trek Day!

This is so incredibly cool to see!

I’ve been starting to notice a pattern for the last year. I’m sure it has nothing to do with my commute. lol

@revengeday Saw this wallpaper and immediately thought of you. https://wallhaven.cc/w/7j6qxy

It was a fun commute home tonight. Once I dipped off of I270. Windows down and @revengeday cranked.

Another solid playthrough on the MacBook Air on macOS Sequoia, playing the Demo using a Steam bottle via Codeweavers Crossover (26.1). Works as expected, just as solid as on Windows or the Steam Deck.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@elementary/115764532010825747

Massive congratulations to the elementary OS team for the release of OS 8.1! This is truly a magnificent release and I appreciate not only the refinements and bug fixing, but the new features as well. And adding in ARM64 support to boot!

I truly love seeing how elementary is moving forward, and it makes me proud to be a sponsor of the project (which you should be doing too!

Much :cyberheart_cyan: to the @elementary team and hopefully you can enjoy your holidays, even with the sneaky release!

@TheEvilSkeleton Random Q, not sure if I should file this or not, but is Upscale intended to be able to compile for aarch64 or is that outside of scope of the project? Or is that something for after the backend rewrite? Builder is having problems on Fedora 43 aarch64 (vm on Apple silicon).

RE: https://floss.social/@gnome/115662430888922814

I've finally put my money where my mouth is and joined the other #FriendsOfGNOME.

I've been using #GNOME since the #HelixCode/#Ximian days shortly after 1.0 and while I have certainly tried other DEs over time, GNOME remains my go-to desktop project after all of these years. It just vibes with how my brain works and what it likes. It is one of my FLOSS rocks.

The consistency, attention to details, and un-overwhelming/non-stim-triggering design has been a comfort to me all of these years later.

I'm finally, 26ish years on, finally in a place that I can actively, and responsibly, support incredible projects like GNOME.
