Having fun with some fungi motifs in today's #inktober drawing. Trying another new ink, only a couple left unopened now, and it's a lovely nut-brown. Perfect for the stem in one of my mushroom motifs.

Here's an in-progress shot.

The rest is now posted for my supporters on Patreon and Ko-fi: https://www.patreon.com/KristinHenry/posts/inkydays-october-171146353

It’s Color Wheel Wednesday!

Can we still call them wheels if they’re oblong? In any case, I painted these for my tutorial on watercolor triads, in which I explored a bunch of different ways to mix three pigments of watercolor paint and arrange the mixes to make geometric art.

Happy color day to all who celebrate!

Flu shot lowers dementia risk:

Your flu shot is linked to more than a week of staying out of bed. In a study of 1.8 million adults 65 and older, those who got at least one flu vaccine were 40 percent less likely to develop Alzheimer’s over the next four years, and a 2025 meta-analysis found that people at higher risk who got more than four shots reduced their dementia risk by 57 percent.

Shingles, RSV and Tdap vaccines are tied to lower dementia risk too. Rolling up your sleeve

Living dangerously, I briefly exposed tonight's dinner with one of the little Thai peppers we picked up at out local farmers market.

Actually, I was very cautious and took it out after a few minutes. My goal was to add a tiny bit of underlying heat in the dish: salmon, asparagus, garlic, lemon, pasta.

I could taste it, but others didn't.

"It's already here, what do you mean you think you can refuse?" is just another variation of the agency-stealing inevitability narrative. The future is not yet written, and we can shape it, starting with rejecting inevitability and claiming our agency.

Do you like #rustlang? Embedded device programming? Home automation? WASM runtimes? Playing with toys? My team, which is almost entirely an R&D team, is looking to backfill a role on our team. It's a fun role, great team, great problems to solve.

Hit my DMs if you apply and I'll get you the attention you need. Please boost! We want to actually hire someone!

A lot of people I know shared posts about the Yandex datacenter bombing resulting in a decrease in Russian misinformation/disinformation bot activity, sometimes with charts. Let this be a reminder every one of us could be fooled by a story that we really want to be true.

Ah! This classic came up in my "Coding" playlist. Still fits. Ha!

Going with a comforting floral pattern for today's #inktober drawing. I like the way this ink bleeds a bit with the diluted blue ink I used. These are the same inks that I used in yesterdays drawing, but the blue is a little more diluted.

I also included the equation for this floral at the top: "n=2i+2".

For my 1 th sketch of Mathober2026 coded in #Python and aided with #Glitchlab, RotationalCurvature creates pieces with Rotating Parabolic (Theme of Day 8) And may contain some Indefinite Quadratics ( Theme of Day 27)

Connected through rotation
Indefinitely similar
but the motions Varies
Still Parabolas? Cleary
But are their truly,
Truly familiar?
In their new formations

#mathober day 13: Standard Map

Imagine a 2D pendulum in zero gravity. Pick an initial angle and momentum. Then, at regular intervals, "kick" the end of the pendulum forward with strength sin(angle). This is a very simple system that exhibits chaotic behavior!

If you place a dot on a diagram after each kick according to the current angle (x-axis) and momentum (y-axis), you get the "standard map". Here is an artist's impression for kick-strength 0.971635!

Ah! I see it's #PortfolioDay! I'm an artist working with code, data, mixed media, and ink on watercolor paper.

Much of my inspiration comes from Science, Math, and Nature.
