i guess “sleeping 13 straight hours” is one way to fix my jet lag lol

I'm losing a staring contest with my cat

I will be at EuroRust starting October 14! looking forward to seeing everyone :)

incidentally, I am still open to finding a job I enjoy more

1) I work from home in Amsterdam. If you are also in Amsterdam, I can physically appear before you on a regular basis.

2) I am not at this exact second a Dutch citizen but I'm working on getting that sorted and finally getting my US passport shredded. I came into the country on a skilled worker visa. I can read Dutch easily and speak it okay

3) I am an infosec expert with a lot of experience reviewing C/C++ source code but I am open to tangentially related roles like malware analysis or optimization analysis, I'd like something fresh

4) I am an intermediate reader of Chinese who is constantly studying, improving, and interested in a role where being able to read Chinese is helpful.

ontologically eepy

Autumn poem just dropped.

I'm hiring a postdoc! Please share broadly with potential candidates.

I'm looking for someone with expertise in PL, FM, and/or networked systems who is excited about contributing to a research and teaching in a growing lab.

Suffice to say, EPFL is an incredible university and Lausanne is a great place to live and work!

Are you interested in learning how to use Git for the first time? (or almost the first time)

we're looking for Git beginners to give us feedback on a Git tutorial! The tutorial will be open source when it's released, so you'll be helping many future beginners! Sign up here: https://forms.gle/zgubUXvFZKRALefWA

(i realize my Mastodon followers are pretty unlikely to be total Git beginners, but I'm putting this out there anyway 🤞)

so, you get a bad cut of meat, and some C4,

I've been crystalizing some advice for first-year college students: "Advice to the New College Student in the AI Era". Thesis: "the purpose of going to college is to emerge as close to middle-aged as possible".

Also I don't know if it's obvious to folks, but fedi can't be a global town square. Attempting to do it is a fool's errand. Architecturally it doesn't work. The infrastructure to do it requires a kind of global consensus which fedi (activitypub specifically) does not have.

A better analogy is that fedi has some very large cities and many more small towns. This mirrors the real world, where big cities aren't for everyone but many people pass through big cities at least a couple times in their life.
