I've kicked off the wind-down work on @jazzband and have sent out emails to most (all?) project leads and people involved.
In case there is a Jazzband project you care about, please check out the dedicated project board and engage: https://github.com/orgs/jazzband/projects/16/views/7

FWIW it's been raised with PSF infra people
Webscale: a chalky residue deposited on architecture when ordinary software is repeatedly exposed to trace amounts of Google engineering blog posts.
Commonly found on:
Removal usually requires a strong solution of “what problem are we actually solving?” and a wire brush.
Severe cases may require application of a harsh cleaner known as Monolith™. Apply liberally until the architecture becomes understandable again.
For deeply embedded Webscale deposits, use PostgreSQL at full strength. Do not dilute with Cassandra.
Seems like there's a heightened number of PyPI CDN Edge Errors at the moment, and the PyPI web UI is failing at login and search for me.

RE: https://social.rust-lang.org/@rust/117288095334006877
The lovely folks from @rust gave me a shoulder-tap in one of our mutual security discussion channels about these ongoing attacks:
https://blog.rust-lang.org/2026/09/17/targeted-attacks/
There's no particular reason the attackers wouldn't do the same to maintainers of Python projects. Please remain vigilant and send anything strange to security@python.org so we can alert others if needed.
The PSF is pleased to announce the results of the inaugural election for the Python Packaging Council! Sending a big thank you to the candidates and our community for participating in this long awaited election. We're excited to see the council start its work! #Python

The PSF is excited to announce the results of the 2026 election for the PSF Board! Sending a big thank you to the candidates, our outgoing Board members, and our community for participating this year- we are so grateful to be in community with all of you 💙💛 #Python

Today it's been exactly as many days from Python 0.9.1 (Feb 20, 1991) to Python 3.0.0 (Dec 3, 2008) as there have been from Python 3.0.0 to now!
import datetime as dt
when_091 = dt.date(1991, 2, 20)
when_300 = dt.date(2008, 12, 3)
today = dt.date(2026, 9, 16)
days_091_300 = (when_300 - when_091).days
days_300_now = (today - when_300).days
print(f"{days_091_300} days from 0.9.1 to 3.0.0")
print(f"{days_300_now} days from 3.0.0 to now")
6496 days from 0.9.1 to 3.0.0
6496 days from 3.0.0 to now
@pyladiesdub @whykay @ThePSF @jezdez
Happy to serve alongside the other elected directors with @elthenerd whose passion for the community goes far beyond what people saw at PyConUS.
@EWDurbin who knows PyPI by the tip of the fingers moved from PSF staff to the Board and Laís Carvalho, an advocate for underrepresented communities with the courage to start new things.
Thank you Denny Perez, @cheukting_ho & @chrisjrn for your service 🙏.
Lots of work ahead. Now, back to work.
I was quiet yesterday because we were finalising the PSF strategic plan while the Chair, @jezdez, reviewed the last version. It was published the same day as the election results.
For the first time, the @ThePSF has a proper strategic framework for where the Foundation is going and what we're building together. For a language used by millions, that's been a long time coming.
Read it here: https://www.python.org/psf/strategy/
It’s a protracted e-bike commercial, sure, but it’s also a Danny MacAskill video, and it’s really pretty.
But it’s sort of incredible how normal an entire film studio in three backpacks is now, how a three thousand dollar drone can get you shots that any twentieth century filmmaker would have cut off an arm for.

📦️ urllib3 2.8.0 is now available!
This release fixes three vulnerabilities (two high, one medium severity) and adds security hardening, including work from @trailofbits's Patch the Planet initiative.
Also included: faster decoding of streamed responses, new authentication helpers, and bug fixes. Our first immutable GitHub release!
CVE IDs were pending at release due to a backlog at GitHub's CNA.
Thanks to everyone who helped!
The PSF Board is proud to share the final version of the PSF’s five-year strategic plan. Thanks to all who improved the plan by participating in the process, and we look forward to all we’ll accomplish together in the next five years. Read more on our blog:
