i've figured it out

I've forgotten what the GitHub status page looks like when GitHub is not down.

There's not a ton of things about Ohio that are good, but our state flag is a banger

OH: Taking the under on Pascal's Wager.

Unsure if people don't learn from history, or just weren't taught it to begin with.

Big Tech claims that they need access to all your information and to monitor you 24/7 in order to tailor their services to you. It'd be an interesting proposition if they made any attempt at actually doing that.

Actually wait I just thought about this and realized that the precise timing of the ACTUAL GitHub seed bank, by which I mean the Arctic Code Vault, on 2020-02-02, makes it more or less a perfect snapshot of pre-Copilot GitHub. Also precisely timed before we all got brain damage from COVID. This is the only remaining archive of source code by people with a fully working sense of smell

"Low-background steel" "Low-desperation code"

I think the perspective missing in this piece is that energy utilities have, in (I would estimate) most places, failed to build out solar capacity.

The result is, as the article does describe, that individuals and companies have installed solar on their own (which is pretty #solarpunk), but now the energy utilities are wringing their hands over handling that.

Also the article misses the clear solution to overproduction: grid-scale energy storage.

I finally understand why people use Python for scripting. Once you get the hang of it, you can bang out a useful little script in a few minutes.

Is this anything?

It just occurred to me that the GitHub Arctic Code Vault snapshot is arguably the perfect source of pre-LLM code — not that we can get to it.

However I think we should resume from the snapshot and try the last 6 years of software development again.

Well, it's official, California has declared it the year of the Linux desktop

Nearly every time I open the YouTube app, it tries to play a short, fails, and sits there on a blank, white screen until I kill the app and try again.

Reinstalling Linux to feel productive

Man, the C programming language is such a hack, good golly.

I hope this email finds you first, God help you.

Y'all remember when Raspberry Pis were $35?

I've been seeing an increase of positive sentiment for rental stores like Blockbuster, wishing for their return.

You know what (usually) doesn't charge you for renting a title, is generally forgiving about late fees, and can often bring in titles for you from other branches if it's not available at yours?

Your local library! Support your libraries! You can typically request titles if they don't have them at all as well.

If you live in California and you want to take advantage of the state-run portal that tells all registered data brokers to delete your data instead of having to send an individual request to every single one, here is what you need to know: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/07/what-you-need-know-about-californias-drop-tool

What we spend work time on has little correlation with what society needs.
