Yes, backups are great, but in my experience mishaps can happen right after you created or changed a file and it might not have been backed up yet. Also trash-restore is much faster than finding a file in the backup solutions I tried so far.

No one uses rmw - well I found that only when researching alternatives to trash/trash-cli. It claims to support btrfs however, which trash does not.

Partly asking this out of curiosity and partly because both trash-cli and rmw are genAI infested and I wonder what the best way forward would be.

I liked the simplicity when trashing whole directories with trash and the easy way to fix a stupid mistake when using it instead of rm.

Furthermore trash-cli (the python version) doesn't support Btrfs. Since Fedora uses Btrfs by default in new installs I wonder if we should keep the package in Fedora at all or rather retire it.

Question to the #ipv6 bubble:

I do not have a static prefix and my local server has multiple public IPv6 addresses, one with a static suffix for incoming connections and at least one random which I'd like to use for anything outgoing (privacy reasons).

Now I need a command to reliably get the dynamic_prefix:static_suffix address for purposes like setting the dyndns record. Is there a Linux command for this or any hints on how to deal with that kind of issue?

(I plan to use curl with --interface but those are multiple addresses on the same interface so I still need to get the address somehow I think.)

On a new installation you may want to "sudo dnf install evince eog" first, idk. For me they were already installed and the defaults switched automatically that is great ♥️

I love Fedora btw, maybe I'll give a KDE spin a try one day...

Seriously #gnome don't you test your new apps?
1. "Papers" the new PDF viewer prints a single landscape page blatantly horizontal on the piece of paper, cutting off half of the contents, wasting paper and ink. While I can fix that *manually* for each print in the print dialog this was *never* an issue with the older Evince.
2. "Loupe" the new image viewer supposedly can rotate images. Well, it has a nice rotation animation but then the image snaps right back. Opened in "Eye of Gnome" everything works just fine 🤦‍♂️
3. Nautilus also had smaller issues after big updates, sometimes not refreshing after file operations or getting stuck with cut and paste.

What happened to form follows function?

I'm done for today, don't even feel like reporting those bugs. (If anyone does: thank you, feel free to share the link ❤️ )

I'll switch back to evince&eog for now. They are still working fine thankfully.

It looks like #libreoffice #impress does not react to the forward and back buttons on my mouse at all. Would be very handy to be able to use that as a presenter though. Is there any way I can set this up easily? (And maybe a bug report to make it happen by default?)

Well its just a bash script one can edit. (Once you installed vim in your container...) I'd assume I'm not the only one getting hindered by this check, it would be great if someone could make this easier. It can't be too hard to add a "I'm a container" detection and disable that check in this case, can it?

I just found https://whynoipv6.com/domain but that is just an automatic list, there is no information if someone already wrote an email or created an issue. No sense of "community effort".

I've been following #ipv6 for a few weeks and now I wonder if there is an issue tracker where people can join forces in an effort to make more sites and services offer v6. Writing emails on your own gets tiring quickly but having that information (including answers or lack thereof) out in the open might be a bit better and maybe give those hindering progress to #ipv6only a little push.

If there isn't such a tracker should we create one?
