I'm not going to work on sanitizing Sentinel right now. Fixing smolarith was a diversion to make me feel less depressed about how everyone is giving into AI. And well, it worked; at least I still have control over the direction my software takes.
Now it's back to the ECC deep dive...
With the parallel unittest harness created, all of the deps that embraced AI have been removed from smolarith. This can serve as a template for future packages so I spend less time on migrating.

It just RANDOMLY turns out that the Texas Instruments SN69438P chip, used in the Furby's pseudo-"speech synthesis", houses a soul. Nobody noticed until now because nobody looked
Additionally the "fix" fixes more than 40 separate issues in a single mega-commit touching 68 files which like. This is really beyond "you are trusting the slop machine too much". This is "the moment the slop machine got in your hands, a switch flipped in your head and you were like 'I never have to follow any engineering standards, any at all, ever again'". To repeat once again: "AI" is not a technology, it is a permission structure

Discovered this by sheer accident...
@hipsterelectron I read through some of the mailing list last night while I couldn't sleep (which didn't help as I immediately began to hate a number of people involved there) and I noticed they said that basically the kernel is *too fucking big* and it takes ages for people to learn a subsystem, much less the whole thing, and now I wanna learn more about micro vs monolithic kernels not just as a technical exercise but as a "how the fuck do we avoid repeating this mistake in the future"
"Just fork it if you don't like it" says the man whose entire job is *just* doing pull requests to a piece of software so large that the maintainers say it basically takes a whole fucking year to learn how to work on various parts of it.

Why am I laughing at this?
So YouTube is apparently working on a feature to allow gifs as comments. And apparently, ppl have figured out how to talk to the API through extensions before the feature is publicly announced.
No, I'm not sick of seeing gifs and memes as comments already, why do you ask?
Does anyone know what SeL4's policy is on genAI contributions?
The SS United States is set to be sunk of the coast of Florida in the largest metaphor in today's news.
@cr1901 Pickle sendfile when
"NetBSD seems to be thriving of late: as the Linux world goes pro-AI, some of the AI-averse are turning to this explicitly AI-free project.
The NetBSD project’s Mastodon feed reports that it received a record 120 donations last month, and it has far exceeded its target:
“We received $120,282 USD in total. Naturally, this has completely filled up our donations target bar which was set at $50,000. Time to fund some projects!”
It’s a welcome contrast to the usual stories of under-funded FOSS projects, and it follows a visible uptick in people asking about NetBSD in the FOSS Unix groups we read, ever since Emperor Penguin Torvalds said that Linux was not an anti-AI project back in July, and the following month, the Debian project polled its developers on AI use, and they chose to permit AI-generated contributions."
What do you mean I can't pickle OS resources? Why isn't that possible :P?
Not sure I can think of a single case where Python pickling has ever NOT gotten in my way... in any case, I have a proof-of-concept of unittest parallel that doesn't require a lot of code. Enough so that I'm willing to reimpl in other projects for now until I refine it.
