Do not donate a penny to Wikimedia until the union is recognized

[Edit to add: If you are pausing donations, as I am, one thing you can do is email them at donate@wikimedia.org to let them know why.]

[Edit 2: here is what the union is asking for instead of pausing donations https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wiki_Workers_United#Solidarity . That said financial support is how I support Wikipedia, so I'm still going the financial route for putting pressure on the organization.]

My friends have a whiteboard where they keep their home improvement todo list, so every time I visit I surreptitiously add a fake item.
- rotate furniture
- refinish doorstops
- ceiling fan torque dampers
- check attic ambient load distribution
- dishwasher vapor return manifold
- recalibrate subfloor tension dampers
- test GFCI harmonic inversion modes (+/- 0.5%)
- confirm plumbing flow alignment (clockwise only!)

@JulianOliver Lack of accountability was a bug; now it's a feature.

For no particular reason on this particular day, here's a guillotine.

What are people using for an IDE on Linux? On Windows I used PyCharm for Python, and VS Code for everything else (Ruby, Java and JavaScript for the most part), but it'd be nice to move to an open source IDE without a big company behind it if such a thing exists.

For my Mint desktop, I'm wanting to have a Home workspace and a Work workspace, with each workspace having it's own Firefox window. I've been doing the same thing on Windows 11, and it works great. However, on Mint, when I reboot and reopen Firefox, both windows come back, but both of them are on the Home workspace, the fact one of them is in the Work workspace is lost.

Is this solvable? Or am I stuck manually moving the Work window every time?

Manage My Health claim the issues that leaked data were fixed and audited. If we do not get a highly detailed report of what went wrong and what was fixed, we should be outraged. If Manage My Health cannot demonstrate they can be trusted, they need to be shutdown.

How dare Nicola Willis get upset with the Greens for refusing to pay along with the coalition's undemocratic restructuring of consent processes; major changes made with zero attempt at consensus building. In a better world, Labour and all the parties left of them would have said they don't consider the Fast Track legitimate and will revoke ALL consents granted under it.

Okay, you're skeptical of AI, but hear me out, what if we produce an entire generation of students who are *all* the ones who did nothing in the group project?

I'm blown away that the voting platform InternetNZ are using is delayed in tallying the results when people look at the live results page of the voting. There's only about 1,100 people voting. What are they using as a database?

"As the Greens’ new strategy argues, official forecasting covers – at best – the short-term economic benefits from government investment, missing things like “productivity gains from investments in health, education, infrastructure, and R&D, which emerge and diffuse over time”. While, in short, we have over-emphasised the supposed dangers of borrowing too much, we have been consistently inattentive to the dangers of borrowing too little."

"[The government] have specifically excluded the best expertise available to them. And they will make whatever decision they choose to make with no oversight and apparently no requirement to be guided by evidence.

This process is discriminatory, already doing harm, and has the potential to do massive and irreversible damage to a generation of trans children."

In other names for this instrument (panguru and panguru whakatangi), panguru means 'bass, gruff'; nguru in this context may mean 'rumble'.

"The opposition to [Modern Monetary Theory] is not about theory: it is about control, and who controls what. MMT recognizes that money is a creature, and monopoly of the state - not the private sector.

[...]

MMT is a different, and arguably more accurate way of modelling the economy and financial system we have right now. It is “we should try seeing the economy this way, and when you do, you’ll see that we have different options.”"

If Labour had any guts, they'd make it clear that projects consented under the coalition's Fast Track Approval bill are illegitimate, and that under a Labour government consents will be revoked without compensation. This would appeal to large blocks of the public, such as those across the political spectrum who have fought against seabed mining here in South Taranaki. And hopefully serve to blunt the damage the bill will do by making it risky to operate under fast tracked consents.
