Reality: Depressing and Sordid!

The other day, my wife was doing something unrelated to the cat. Obviously, this offended the cat greatly as adult humans are required to give the cat treats when they are present in the kitchen. So he sit-stands behind her and yells. Then, receiving no response, apparently decides that being outside of her field of vision might be the issue, he comes around to sit-stand beside her and yells again.
It was about then that I picked him up, snuggled him, and paid him his snacks—on top of some uneaten snacks already in his food dish.

Mozilla “modern UI”! Rounded corners on a full-screen page!

IANAL* so I don’t use LLMs to do my thinking or work.

* I Am Not A Loser **

** subject to additional caveats, but on this front I’m cool

I mean, it’s both. It may have saved my life, but now I’m living a poorer life because I can’t or haven’t moved beyond that strategy.

Low key hate how every strategy for surviving shit gets labeled as “trauma response” and “a sign of cPTSD.” Yes, I am rudderless. It was necessary to not break. I am a fucking willow bending in the wind, asshole!

Weeding is a roller coaster for your dog.
“Holy shit, Dad, you like to DIG?! That’s something we can do together!!! Wait. Why are you mad? We’re digging. Aren’t we?”

We have pipe cleaners. This is a small thing, but you can wrap one around a finger to make a little springy toy and our cat loves them! He’s having a grand time touring the house batting it around and carrying it in his mouth!

Does it blow enough that I’m willing to go work in one of the weird, uncomfortable fishbowl hotel long cubicles for schmucks like me who don’t merit a dedicated desk but are still required to come into the office regularly??? These are both horrendous options that I don’t think I can meaningfully work under!

The slop lovers are having a fucking gabfest a few cubes behind me at work. This blows.

I have a good track record on decisions overriden by management. They get overturned in favor of my proposal months or years later when it’s no salve at all to my motivation. Perceptually-uniform color maps, not deploying that gods-awful two-step authentication system that multiple other CISSPs argued at the time would satisfy our multi factor requirement, switching from Docker to Podman.
I’m not a genius. I read and experiment. If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants or a heap of mistakes I already made experimenting with the shit you say you want to do now!

Honest answer to the stupidest interview question: my biggest weakness is that I need a steady supply of currency to keep myself and my family housed and fed—is the vulnerability that got us to the point where I have to answer these questions and pretend that I really really do want to productize whatever needless software widget you’re selling.
*ahem* Sometimes I take my work quite seriously and advocate passionately for my favored set of professional values even after the decision has been made.

Offchain labs, look inside, it’s blockchain bullshit. Sigh.

There is an infinite possibility space of cool shit that we could be doing with software. And yet, every fucking company I see hiring is talking about “AI agents”—which is both wrong and incredibly fucking boring.

Dick Sucking… Mandibles?

I decided to forgo coffee this morning because my depression meds—which aren’t really cutting it—“aren’t supposed to be taken with caffeine”. I don’t feel better. I think I’m too tired to do anything drastic but, if anything, being tired to the point of needing to focus on staying awake is a step down in quality of life.

Just saw a vanity license plate MILSPEC on a Cybertruck.
Hilarious, but I doubt the owner realizes it.

Once again, my dog has kicked the planter off the porch because is so goddamn excited to go for walkies.

Shit, rain! Reinstall the car battery to put up the windows! Hurry up, fucker!

Local computer man forced to do outside things! Car cleaning. Riveting eyelets onto kayaks to secure cushy seats. Cleaning out a mouse nest from the kayaks.
