I initially felt weird about changing a shipped theme style, but I think the Mono → Graphite redo turned out really nice.

The whole 1.1 update is coming together nicely. I was worried that focusing on iPhone Duo would mean nothing for everyone else, so I made sure to spend time on polish and the new extra themes as well.

Hopefully it’ll be out on Friday if I can stick to my plan (and review cooperates). And then after this… I want to finish a blog post about something!

I do wish I could do the same for data *reading*, but there’s not a good way for apps to detect this. There’s also no good way for me to help someone fix these issues either, so I hope y’all like memorizing multi-step instructions. 😬

Spent this week working on proactive HealthKit error handling (for missing write authorizations) and support for writing partial samples (so you can choose to only authorize caffeine or water writes).

As always, this has been way more work than expected as I realize all assumptions past-me made that I am now breaking. I think it’s gonna be good though. #Drops

And pro tip: don’t forget that in-app purchases need to be submitted for review with an app’s 1.0 if you want them to be available with it.

Despite knowing this, in the time between creating the IAP for testing and submitting, I forgot. Because TestFlight doesn’t care about approval I also didn’t notice until it went live on the App Store. Oops!

Anyways, that’s where the 1.0.1 update came from.

Super excited (and only a little nervous) to say that Drops, my caffeine tracking app, is finally out! After 12 years, I once again have something on the App Store.

While waiting for App Review, I also went ahead and updated https://dropstracker.app with iOS 27 screenshots. Was hoping to have it out before the update, but life had other plans, and I got sick again last week. Ugh.

Now we wait 😬

I already reimplemented the bordered button style so I could have a version that looks correct when disabled in a popover. The standard one turned opaque with white text (which looked bad and was unreadable). #iOSDev

Making an issue for myself called "Make disabled toolbar buttons actually look disabled" because Liquid Glass has confused multiple people at this point 😮‍💨

Trying to not let myself succumb to being (too) grumpy that I must spend time building custom controls in order to make my app feel like I used standard controls. #iOSDev

I know there's bigger news today, but I'm personally excited about this.

I let myself have a little fun and used this as a research project to try out CSS grid. Possibly, I did not use it optimally, but it felt a lot nicer than flex for what I wanted.

I also discovered drop shadow filters, which greatly simplified the image preprocessing and layout. There was a WebKit bug this ran into, but the bug had enough of a workaround for me to ship it (there’s a note in the CSS if you’re curious).

My goal is to have Drops 1.0 submitted for review this week (no promises though). To that end, while it’s not quiiiite the final version yet, that meant I also needed to get the real website uploaded. So presenting the beta of https://dropstracker.app.

Also speaking of URLs, I spun up some dedicated socials here (@dropstracker) and on Bluesky. Need to figure out what to post about next 😅
