“Mask wearing surges from 4 people to 7” https://aus.social/@DenisCOVIDinfoguy/117453431052886938

Shaw/Rogers completely failing the “make your outage site super lightweight and static so when you are on carrier pigeon class cellular data you can check your areas outage status” challenge 2026.

I’m eavesdropping on a call my wife is on where a First Nations lady is talking about her experience at a residential school when she was a child and it’s shocking. The people who perpetuated all this should be hunted down by time travelling John Wicks. Canada’s shame. Unforgivable.

I got to my appointment half an hour early so instead of sitting and waiting in a stuffy room I opted to hang out at a nearby park hoping I didn’t give off serial murderer vibes. I had no idea what to do with myself other than take pictures and walk around a bit trying to appear nonchalant and failing. I’m not good at being a human.

If you call your restaurant “Pizza Pizza” then I will be forced to retaliate by opening a restaurant called “Pizza Pizza Pizza” which as I understand it would be better because it has an extra Pizza in the name. I am not an MBA.

The scene from 2001 where Dave Bowman disconnects HAL by shutting each of his function down hits different in 2026. I feel like I’d be able to shut down/kill a pleading AI agent with zero compunction, like a psychopath.

Whenever they try to downplay it by saying it’s just risky for immune compromised people, remember, all people who have had covid are in that group now. It fucks you up - take it from someone who knows. https://mstdn.social/@DemocracyMattersALot/117226382768682330

The supply chain is so bad right now that the only RAM I could find came as a DIY kit.

For some reason I got to see the token spend for everyone who works at my main client, so now I know who all the ai bros are and who barely touch it or don’t use it at all. I apparently have a limit of $27 a month and I’ve used $0 so far so yay me. Not surprising as I haven’t enabled any AI stuff in my IDE or use harnesses like OpenCode or Claude.

2026 is the year of:

Guy: what do you do?

Me: I’m in software engineering

Guy: oooo sorry.

Me: yeah.

Guy: what are you trying to get into instead?

Me: plumber maybe.

I had another totally impromptu amazing interaction with my autistic boy today. We checked out the new balcony furniture I built, went to the back garden to check on the plants and to talk some more about how we are going to repaint the fences (he’s excited about helping - he’s picked out the fence he wants to paint) and we sat in his room eating popsicles and just chilling out on our respective devices occasionally showing each other something on them and chatting about it. Incredible. If you knew how hard the last 10 years have been, between him growing up with all the autism issues and the pandemic and his inexplicable hatred of me over the last 18 months then you’d know how fucking amazing this all is.

Generative AI is the AI we have been beaten about the head for the last 4 years and this is what generates the slop. Other forms of “AI” that have been around for DECADES are not slop and actually perform useful tasks but are generally not as well known or completely unknown to the general public.

It’s the closest I have come to acting - having to put on the persona of a hyper confident man, leaning on the counter, cracking jokes and being loud while being the only person wearing a mask. It works. It’s fucking exhausting though.

I’m going to need to find some coviding people near me otherwise I’m destined to spend the rest of my life without any friends. Which is fine - I have my family, and I’m an introvert and very rarely crave social contact with others, but I’m still human. Human-ish. Of a sort. Don’t run any tests though.

Ministry of Shut Up Your Face

Yesterday we had my wife's car serviced and they found various issues. I am a car duffer so I was listening and retaining very little and feeling like a total idiot. Later on I told my wife "is this what normies feel like about computers? I don't like this feeling"

"this" is making CLAUDE.md a symlink to "/dev/urandom"

Trump’s going to want to change the Iran terms isn’t he? And when he can’t, he’s going to post a truth social rant and start bombing them again and we’re back to square one.

My dad was not aware that I’d had Covid, and was suffering from various long term medical issues from it. The brain fog issues, the sleep issues, the rapid heart rate issues when laying down, the all over body numbness and the triggering of an immune system condition (arthritis) when I was only 42. Yeah, i don’t wear a fucking mask because I’m doing some performative woke thing. I’m pretty sure I’ve repeatedly explained my situation to my parents but apparently it never registered with them.

Is there any room left for businesses that offer services that don’t include AI in some form? I’m sat here on vacation, staring at the beautiful vista infront of me, drink in hand, trying to think of something I can do in the software space that will both be interesting to me, make a little money so I can stop working for clients who are drooling and muttering “agents” on repeat. Because I just don’t know what other field I can pivot to at this late stage of my career, and daring international jewel thief sounds like a lot of work and probably involves lasers and car chases through little German towns.
