I rediscovered an old archive of my wiki, which used OddMuse, a wiki engine written in Perl and developed by @kensanata (the good old time)
So I decided to write a Python converter to bring it back to life. I’ll probably discover that 80% of the content is useless, but the remaining 20% might still be worth preserving.
The converter is crappy but it works.
Data:
- LLMs are killing the planet
- LLMs are raising utility prices
- LLMs are raising computer prices
- LLMs give you teh dums
- LLMs show negligible increases in net productivity
- LLM costs are going up
- LLMs run on stolen content
- LLM companies keep breaking laws and saying, "Oopsie!"

I might be more inclined to harden my password game if the weak point in every single breach I've ever been exposed in wasn't the company on the other end of my login.
We're exactly ONE step away from "jailing and disappearing political opponents" here in the US.
Trotzdem scheut Bundesbern scheinbar jede Verbindlichkeit.
The Kyiv Independent paints a stark picture of how the past few days unfolded. Ukrainian officials say they arrived in Miami to discuss a reciprocal energy ceasefire, only to learn Trump was preparing to ease sanctions on Russian diesel exports. They say Washington then pressed Kyiv to stop refinery strikes and threatened to cut intelligence sharing. Ukraine refused to commit to a unilateral halt without reciprocal Russian action. “It felt like a trap,” one senior official said. #Ukraine

I think the sensible course is to meet halfway and call it superficial intelligence.
Zelenskyy: US should have concluded a "diesel agreement" with Ukraine
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that the United States should have concluded a "diesel agreement" with Ukraine, since it is Ukraine that determines which Russian oil refineries operate and which ships carrying Russian oil can navigate at sea.
Source: European Pravda, citing Zelenskyy answering the questions during the Warsaw Security Forum on 12 October
Details: Zelenskyy expressed doubt that the agreements reached regarding the supply of Russian diesel between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin will have an impact on the global market, as the agreed volume, according to him, is insignificant.
Quote: "If someone thinks otherwise, let them think so. I believe that other motives lie behind this decision. If so, then why isn't America concluding an agreement on diesel fuel supply with Ukraine?.. We influence whether these vessels move. We determine whether the oil refineries operate. Let's do that."
Details: Zelenskyy once again reiterated the energy ceasefire, emphasising that uninterrupted power supply is what matters to Ukraine.
Quote: "If they can guarantee the protection of our power grid, we will not interfere with their diesel infrastructure. For us, power supply primarily means helping people. Power supply is important for people, but this [stopping Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure – ed.] is also helpful for Europe, as everyone knows that we are connected to the European grid, and if our energy sector is not targeted by attacks, we will be able to help other countries."
Background:
• Zelenskyy stated that when it comes to an energy ceasefire, stopping Russian strikes on power stations and the energy grid is key, and the American team has been well informed about this.
• On 11 October, Trump in his social media Truth Social claimed that Ukraine and Russia had agreed to an immediate energy ceasefire.
• A White House official told Axios that an "energy ceasefire", as understood by the US president, means that Russia and Ukraine will stop attacks solely on each other's oil refineries.

With U.S. elections a month away now, Donald Trump's disapproval rating on the economy is now at an astonishing 73%.
A 65% majority also blame Trump for higher costs due to his policies like tariffs and his stalemated war against Iran:

It remains wild to me just how bad AI generated anything looks when you're a subject matter expert in that thing.
Similarly, it remains really sad to me when I see Claude "generate" code, and then find the project from 8 years ago that it completely word for word stole from.
I assume LLMs are absolute magic to people who don't know anything about a given subject matter, and as someone who is currently going through wisdom of the ancients for exim configurations, I can almost understand the appeal, but like, the worst possible outcome imo here is that I use a chatbot, and it seems to work, but then I offer this as a service to real customers, and it breaks, and I literally don't understand the product well enough to help, so then I need to keep visiting chat bots over and over again to ever do my job, tacking on more and more expense and ruining my ability to troubleshoot anything, which is what I pride myself on: because I'm an engineer.
My whole profession and skill set is built around my ability to build complex systems, troubleshoot them, scale them, and optimize them for reliability and availability in worst case scenarios. There's an art to this work and the meticulous documentation to do it correctly such that it will run long after you die.
I know a lot of people will say "but I just use LLMs for the non-creative boring stuff" and like, as someone whose skillset is that "non-creative boring stuff": That fucking hurts.
I read some post about how Mastodon consists primarily of German-speaking creatures talking in English. I'm gonna do a poll, need to test that. Boosts highy appreciated!
So, do you speak German?
Wtf? 😧
The boy in this picture is Lorenzo. He’s a student at liceo Marconi, in Parma.
During the Teha Group festival in his city, #Leonardo, Italy’s notorious military giant, was described as an example of industrial excellence and vision for the future.
Lorenzo asked a question that everyone should have asked.
Why a company that made billions by supplying weapons to the Zionist entity so it could perpetrate a genocide in #Gaza is supposed to be praised as an example of industrial excellence.
Why the industrial vision for the future must rely on military conglomerates that make billions thanks to genocides, while many startups founded by brilliant young people have to starve for funding.
Why teenagers like him are part of classes of 30 students forced to study in rooms designed for 15 students, and why Italians are supposed to silently accept continuous cuts to education and healthcare, in order to see their taxes diverted to genocide-makers depicted as industrial excellence.
The worst thing is that behind the “new military Renaissance” doctrine there are mostly people in their 70s and 80s.
A gerontocracy made of late-capitalist psychopaths who don’t care about the future of their own grandsons, because they won’t be alive when that future happens.
Why doesn’t this intergenerational mass theft cause massive social unrest that leads to a true political revolution?
The US is threatening to block weapons supplies to Ukraine over its attacks on russian oil refineries.
This includes the PURL initiative, which allows European countries to purchase American weapons for Ukraine, including Patriot interceptor missiles. The US is also reportedly threatening to cut off intelligence sharing.
What Trump is doing should serve as a major wake-up call for Europe and all US allies.
As long as Trump is in power, the United States cannot be taken for granted as a reliable ally.
Europe must be prepared to defend itself and support Ukraine without having to fear that American support could be used as political leverage.

Ich freue mich auch über boosts, danke!
snac is a simple, minimalistic ActivityPub instance written in portable C (https://codeberg.org/grunfink/snac2).
I've created an OpenBSD port for it (www/snac) -

This time, the US government put sanctions not on individual members, but to the international criminal court itself.
I would expect that's the end of contracts with and services from Microsoft. The prenotice period is 6 months.
