@aj @ajsadauskas but why is this better than Glenferrie oval _sigh_, although I admit despite being a Hawthorn follower back then I never bothered wandering over from Swinburne in the two years I spent there
@aj @acb @ajsadauskas I've done Perth to Broome and back. That's fun.
Do you get a discount if you have to take a bus instead of a train?
@NewtonMark I said to Alli this morning, regarding this: the punishment (and there needs to be punishment, even for self-reported acts) needs to be backpay with significant interest to every short-changed employee and fines either of the amount not paid or a significant percentage of organisational *income* for the period during which the offence took place such that it *hurts*.
Why does this keep happening, in universities in particular? Surely by now they've all run audits and fixed it, after figuring out that it's a sector-wide deficiency? https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-10-15/flinders-university-admits-to-underpayment-of-casual-staff/107265044
@ajsadauskas Ugh god no, when that happens I cancel the booking and fly instead.
@LapTop006 @ajsadauskas It's a nice facility, they have multiple ovals including one they play AFLW games on. Very extensive shop and also a museum (which I might post photos from later).
And as well as playing at Waverley Park, they also used it as their training and admin base up until last year.
Big downsides are it's nearly impossible to get to by public transport, and it's incredibly windy.
@ajsadauskas bleh, although I guess that's not far from Waverley Park which was their home ground for a while until it shut
@acb @ajsadauskas Yes, this was a single bus all the way from Southern Cross to Central.
It was worth it for the experience, but I probably wouldn't do it again!
@aj
That happened to me once day of departure. We cancelled and flew.

@decryption Same here. Nearly every contact with publishers was made on the very old Twitter. I talked about an idea and got several orders. My blog had crazily high numbers of real human readers. Nowadays, about 80% of my "readers" are AI scraping bots from the USA and China, although the blog has a protection against "legal bots". In search, it's quite invisible.
@decryption Exactly this. I am in my mid forties and never once have I gone for a job interview. And it‘s always because I shared what I was doing on my websites at the time.
@decryption sorry man, it sucks hey. Here's hoping the pendulum swings back the other way soon
Yea … I keep thinking that the “this will all crash and blow over” anti AI group might be one of the most damaging groups out there right now.
Between giving lots of peeps false hope and the average person probably having a decent awareness of the existence of the problems with AI, I’m just not sure that their perspectives serve anything other than their egos (which I get, but still).
I started this "American Fietser" platform back in 2017 when I accidentally became a transportation urbanist because of the Netherlands 🇳🇱. It grew, it’s been fun, but the social landscape has changed and I need a shift as well.
I’m not closing up shop. I still enjoy posting media and chatting with people, but trying to be a dedicated advocacy entity is exhausting, and I honestly don't think people value that rigid focus anymore. Honestly, I don't like it in other accounts anymore.
Things are a mess right now, seemingly everywhere all at once. We're mostly on here for distraction. I'd rather lean into that. Instead of forcing myself to stay strictly on-topic, this space is going to be more me, Brandon, and a bit less just "Fietser."
The bikes, urbanism, and infrastructure design aren't going away, but the narrow focus has to broaden for my own sanity.
I know this is a big account and some folks might leave because of the shift. That's completely fine. Thanks to everyone who sticks around.
#Melbourne at street level this time.
