Good morning/whatever all.
George just plonked himself on top of Fred for some determined washing, Fred then reversed roles, a few bites were exchanged, more mutual washing, then George shifted to the other side of my leg. Sleep has resumed.

This is huge. I’m struggling to take it in.

While this video was made by an artist who produces online tutorials and sells their own art supplies, the first part is about ethics & sustainability.
Privatisation was supposed to provide superior service at a lower cost due to greater efficiency. Instead, private for-profits see the provision of services as an opportunity to rip off the public purse, while providing inadequate, inappropriate or downright dangerous services.
It’s past time that we re-build public services for essential services including healthcare.
I moved an umbrella into the living room to dry out, & was too slow to get a photo of Fred inspecting it in a meerkat pose.
The Nashi is just starting to show signs of life. No doubt it will flower while we’re away. Waiting to see if any of these blooms on my now healthy lemon turn into fruit.
Jolly cold outside, but at least the rain has paused, giving the cats a chance to sniff around.
Okay people. I want quirky, nerdy t-shirts, not printed with vinyl/plastic paint. You know, more sustainable old school style. Preferably Australian.
He’s just knocked a little spray bottle off my bedside table. Purring loudly. Oops! There goes my eyedrops.

I haven’t read all of the album stories yet, but will. I was only 6 and not yet listening to radio. My dad loved his Tijuana Brass album, and Mum played The Executives Now album which included covers of the Mamas & the Papas. (Not sure what year this came out.) My brother had probably started collecting Beatles singles, using money earned by collecting beer bottles for the deposit refund.
All of this music was still around when I really started taking notice, & influencing the performers I would listen to in the 70s.
I think I’ve finished. I’ll have another look tomorrow, just in case I’ve forgotten something.
I’m ambivalent about Newsom, but he’s talking a lot of sense here. Garnaut warned us years ago about the economic impacts of climate change. And the failure of the Democrats to sell their climate policies to the public is reminiscent of similar failures by Australian Labor governments.
Good policies with far reaching consequences aren’t always recognised as such by the public. People are ignorant, distracted, and anxious. They will focus on discrete parts of an issue that have a clear and immediate impact on themselves rather than take the time & effort to understand big picture issues with far reaching consequences, unless explained to them in terms they understand and in ways that will catch & hold their attention.
Whose stupid idea was it to paint striped, weatherboard beach boxes? Sheesh!
This is one of my concerns. Not just possible control by Chinese manufacturers, but by hackers. And being held to ransom by manufacturers and having to “subscribe” to receive software updates etc. I don’t understand why everything has to be connected all of the time. Do the gains outweigh the costs? Does anyone do thorough, unbiased cost benefit analyses any more?
Unacceptable. If politicians & economists want a proportion of people to remain unemployed, they should be prepared to support them. And so should everybody else.

No wonder we “need” massive data storage. I’d love to be able to buy an EV that doesn’t collect or analyse any data other than what’s needed to operate the car.
Friend took this cool photo. Hope to make a good watercolour out of it. Will have to leave out some of the yard junk, but not too much!
Battery update. (Not a thorough analysis.)
Over winter, on “good” days, a combination of battery & solar met all of our needs from about 9am until 5 or when partner started cooking.
On “bad” days (and there were only a few), the grid supplied most of our needs.
Most days were somewhere in between.
I was careful to never run appliances concurrently. We’re an all electric home with heat pump hot water & heating/cooling, & an induction cooktop. But we don’t yet have an EV.
Since late August, the grid has supplied little to almost none of our power. The height of the sun in the sky has a significant impact on the efficiency of our solar. At this time of year, we start exporting significant amounts to the grid, which is where it would be nice to have an EV. (We don’t drive a lot, so would be able to rely largely on Solar to top up the battery.)

Gone off overnight to play goloff tomorrow. Sat on balcony of accommodation & attempted to paint scene using my new water paintbrush (water in handle of brush) & travel palette & watercolour sketchbook. The colours in the little palette are very bright, the paper in the sketchbook takes forever to dry, & learning how to use this brush is a real challenge. Not sharing the results! But it was fun. 😁
