#selfhosted So I am trying to set up a Nextcloud instance on a VPS server I have rented out for the next year. And it's quite a trek through a maze of security. At least I'm familiar with Linux.
I just want a space I can share with family for various files and pics, and I got a domain name for my own email server - outside Google.
But now that I got an email with tuta, I wonder if getting a syncthing with the kids wouldn't be just as efficient, since I have libre office anyways.

Landlords think they are Plantations Owners that 'rent out' YOUR body to corporations, and collect YOUR earnings as profit.

I don't own a car. I take public transit everywhere, and I do think personal vehicle use has real environmental costs. But I don't think driving is inherently unethical.
I live in Seoul, and the city makes transit easy for me. That's not a virtue. It's a condition I happen to benefit from. Some people live where transit barely exists, or where it doesn't get them to work, school, or care. In those places, driving is not optional.
The same is true of flying. In parts of Europe you can cross borders by train. In island nations, or in places with weak land connections, flying may be the only realistic option. “Just fly less” means very different things in those places.
A lot of what gets called my ethical choices comes from the conditions I live in. That makes me wary of turning structural failures into personal morality. If the alternative is missing or unusable, shaming people for not choosing it solves nothing.
When environmental harm gets framed as individual moral failure, attention shifts away from the structural changes that would actually matter. It's not an accident that oil companies spent decades popularizing the idea of the personal carbon footprint.

NO.
I would be more glad I got out of programming before it turned to pink slime, but I will have to suffer the consequences of lazy hacks breaking the banking system - maybe even the electric grid - before this is over.
UN Rapporteur Francesca Albanese accused of anti-semitism after condemning Israeli war crimes in Gaza and occupied West Bank
—
UN Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories Francesca Albanese rejected accusations of anti-semitism as “shameful and defamatory” in an interview with FRANCE 24. She warned that Israel’s “plan to fully destroy Gaza continues” and denounced escalating Israeli measures in the occupied West Bank, where soldiers and settlers are “spreading terror.” Albanese described recent Israeli actions to strengthen control over the occupied West Bank—including land acquisitions and seizures of Palestinian Authority areas—as “absolutely worrisome” and “illegal,” highlighting Israel's limitless conquest ambitions.
Albanese also denied claims that she had labeled Israel “the enemy of humanity,” stating she has never made such a statement. She spoke about the personal consequences of US sanctions imposed on her last year following her report on US companies’ involvement in Israeli actions in Gaza, noting that she is now unable to maintain a bank account and relies on her family for support.
“Isn’t this absurd,” she said, “to simply have exercised freedom of expression, freedom of speech in a context of evident and fully documented crimes that I have the responsibility, the obligation to report on?”
