https://krebsonsecurity.com/2026/09/fbi-probes-service-selling-153m-drivers-licenses/ Who could possibly have predicted that widespread ID checks could have dangerous consequences?!
Adding user settings for the camera controls (scaling, invert, etc), which means replacing the variables that could only be set via the editor with values from the user settings...
And, apparently, repeatedly saying "Wait, how did this work? This should never have worked! WTF?!?"🤦
Upcoming event in work: "NVIDIA Quantum Day: Accelerated Quantum Supercomputing with CUDA-Q"
I've been suspecting that "Quantum" will be the next hype target after the LLM bubble, and I'm seeing more and more stuff like this cropping up.
Keep an eye on what NVIDIA are up to.
Moved my graphics options from dropdowns to @sinbad's OptionWidget. Although I changed the widget a bit so that the mouse widgets get disabled at either end of the option list, rather than being hidden.
Very easy to set up and use the class too - thanks Steve!
Slowly getting somewhere with the options UI. UI work always takes me forever 😩
Volume controls are working, the display stuff is just a massive bunch of dropdowns that aren't doing anything yet.
So many dropdowns.
Good grief, even the fruit wants to know the WiFi password these days!
Inadvertently made this level look quite angry when viewed from this direction.
So my systems recently updated to rsync 3.4.3, and as soon as that happened my backup system - which does incremental backups using multiple --compare-dest= arguments - started to fail on anything but a full backup.
Revert to 3.4.1 and it works.
So I go look at the source in GitHub to see what might have changed, because there doesn't seem to be anything relevant in the changelog.
Since 3.4.1, 36 commits by "tridge and claude"
Oh for fuck's sakes.
Another level made - although having decided to shuffle some levels into the next zone for Reasons, I'm down to 31 levels done out of 36 for this zone.
I'm faintly worried this one might be a bit too easy, but if so I'll move it to an earlier point in the zone. Of nothing else, once I'm done with this zone, I need to go through all the levels in it to check there's a vaguely sane difficulty progression anyway.

I have added a human.json file to my website. https://codeberg.org/robida/human.json is the spec and it contains links to browser extensions that help show a site's status. The file itself can be found at https://starforge.co.uk/human.json
I've added vouches for a bunch of sites I know to be made by humans - if you would like to be added, and you don't use generative AI on your site, send me a message and I can add you.
Every time I decide to try to find out how the Lyra example from Epic does something I'm struck by two things.
One is how impressive it is as an example, they really put a lot of effort into it.
The other is how bloody complicated it is and how tracing what it's doing involves drawing diagrams that wouldn't be out of place in the Necronomicon.
Guess I should nail the colours to the mast: https://starforge.co.uk/ai/
Anyone have any recommendations for (preferably EU-based) video meeting software - alternatives to zoom/teams/etc? Ideally one that's easy for non-technical people to use - send them a link, and it works in-browser - and doesn't have terribly flickery virtual background behaviour?
I have the hard bit of building the templates needed for my static site generator done, so now onto the easy bit* of writing the code to convert the markdown, munge into templates, output the html, copy across static files, all that stuff...
Oh, and @byobattleship suggested the name "Homer" which works either for authoring epic works, or bumbling rambles of a muppet, so... yeah, that probably works well.
* ease not guaranteed. Or remotely likely.
A few random screenshots from Project Shinar, so I can pin them for people visiting my profile.
Entirely randomly, this image is useful again today...
So I'm gathering that MkDocs is mid implosion because of maintainer drama.
I can't be arsed unpicking the inevitable scisms, forks, factions and so on. Just going to write my own bloody site generator, as I should have done from the start.
Fucking hell.
Sebastian "Kebu" Teir has just released his latest album, Urban Skies.
If you like 1980s-influenced analogue synth music, give it a listen:
I swear to Eris, ical recurring events may be the thing that pushes me over the edge into 'underpants on head, pencils up the nose, and saying "wibble"' territory.
Welp, @keefstuart mentioned Deus Ex in his latest newsletter... which means I am now required to reinstall it.
