Amelia Hamer is having another tilt at politics. Previously, she failed to win Kooyong. It was practically the safest "safe" Federal seat until lost by former Treasurer, Joshua Frydenberg. Monique Ryan took that "blue ribbon" seat for the Teals and is doing a good enough job to hold it for multiple terms.

This time, Amelia Hamer is trying to win the State seat of Malvern, one of the more "old money" seats in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne. It's down the road from her home in a different state seat, in the even more affluent suburb of Hawthorn.

Amelia Hamer describes herself as a renter although she's a NIMBY and a landlord. She owns property in London, and more recently bought property in Melbourne, where she's lived for several whole months of her adult life.

After getting a degree from Oxford, Amelia Hamer recently graduated Magna Cum Perturbans from The Peter Dutton School for Smiling Human-style.

To say Ed Sheeran is a profoundly annoying turnip-brained fool is to do a disservice to all root vegetables.

Pink and Macklemore have my sympathy for having to share the stage with him.

Ed Sheeran has stumbled into the fray and spoken of "trying to build bridges". He seemed to think this meant agreeing with promoters to kick Macklemore off the tour because they didn't like his support for Palestine. Ed Sheeran also tried to "both sides" the genocide by Israel in Palestine, and claimed he has opinions and wants to show support (for who or what?) but in his own personal way and not in public.

In other words, people are asking Ed Sheeran to step-up, and he refused to use his platform. He caved to political pressure and supports censorship of artists, like Macklemore, who he says he has "respect" for. He wants to stay silent.
Silence is complicity.
Ed Sheeran has sided with genocide.

Apple pervert watches are the new Meta pervert glasses, if I'm reading the news correctly.

I wasn't expecting Apple to join the club, but here we are with every person who wears an Apple watch being untrustworthy because the new Apple Watch Ultra is a creepy, always-on, invisible recording device. Not a good look for a company that had a reputation for privacy and security. Looks like the company's new management failed to read the room. In defence of Apple, recordings are garbled by "AI-transcription".

Edit to add:
This post isn't an invitation to Apple fanboys to mansplain Tech to me with "Well actually" condescension.
(Good riddance to whoever deleted your comment / blocked me.)
Apple is normalising hidden recording on everyday devices. It breaks social norms and consent. Folks will assume all Apple watches are pervert watches and users are creeps. Enshittification harms the reputation of Apple and its customers.

Total fire ban in place for Sydney as city set to reach 33 degrees
https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/total-fire-ban-in-place-for-sydney-as-city-set-to-reach-33-degrees-20260905-p60ung.html

It's less than one week since the end of winter here in Australia — and shiny xmas junk has not yet begun appearing in shops — but we already have a Total Fire Ban day in Sydney and bushfire warnings for large areas of the state of New South Wales.

Meanwhile, widespread heatwaves in Europe are ongoing, and have caused more than 36,000 deaths.

Tell me again that Global Warming observations and predictions are alarmist propaganda.

Tell me again that all this talk about "net zero" will get Big Business to act to reduce their pollution.

Tell me again that governments around the world can keep refusing to regulate against companies that cause climate change, and continue their Neoliberal "personal responsibility" lie that tells citizens to change the very system that makes them powerless.

Tell me again that Climate Change is a hoax.

Dave Hughes’s ‘common sense’ is just another rich person whining – Amy Remeikis
https://www.deepcutnews.com/p/dave-hughess-common-sense-is-just

"Common sense" is a thought-terminating cliché used by fans of totalitarian politicians.

Dave Hughes doesn't have a point.
He's not trying to make a point.
He's trying to get people to stop thinking.
He wants people to stop applying logical arguments against his bullshit.
He wants people to give-up their fight against fascism.
Dave Hughes wants people to vote against their own interests and vote for a popularist fascist.

Hughesy can get in the bin.

Australia Post, what the fuck?
https://auspost.com.au/owl-post-experience

Australia Post has changed its branding only a handful of times in its history as a government-owned corporation, which dates back to the founding of Australia in 1901. A few days ago, they changed their logo as an advertising stunt in support of the transphobic, racist author of a book/movie series about a wizard school. This is an awful move on multiple levels. It would have required the sign-off of several very senior people in Australia Post, and I think it's fair that every one of them gets fired. Fuck right off and get in the bin.

I dunno if it will get through to the right people, but I suggest you politely give them your opinion: https://helpandsupport.auspost.com.au/s/products-and-services

I am proud to announce I have a new job as a verbal advisor for a fugitive property developer, and will be paid $660,999 without a scrap of evidence in writing for work done, and I am looking forward to the challenges of this role.

Victorian Premier Ben Carroll to announce $2b in cuts to Suburban Rail Loop
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-08-25/suburban-rail-loop-project-ben-carroll-savings-2-billion/107073280

Ben Carroll sure has a curious strategy in the run-up to this year's State Election: it appears he wants to make the Coalition redundant by himself acting as the Opposition party.

Today's brainfart from Ben Carroll is to hamstring the Suburban Rail Loop by slashing the scope and budget for essential infrastructure. His plan will drastically reduce the effectiveness of the SRL, and lock-in extra travel time for passengers.

This comes only days after Ben Carroll returned to his anti-worker Shoppie roots by saying he wants to axe plans to protect workers' rights to Work From Home. Remote work is contrary to Conservative dogma and return-to-office edicts of big business and rent-seeking property developers, so Ben Carroll was quick to oblige.

Good job, Benny, on your RWNJ election promises!

'Narcissist' bosses are more likely to oppose work from home, studies show.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-07-21/narcissist-bosses-oppose-work-from-home/106937492

Once again, studies have found narcissism is a consistent factor in corporate leaders who object to remote work and insist on people working in an office. CEOs and managers who are obsessed with power and status are the root cause of return to office mandates. Meanwhile, studies have found that workers are diligent enough to perform as well under bad office conditions as they do if they work from home, but at the cost of higher staff turnover. Conversely, WFH is good for job satisfaction and work-life balance.
