It has been brought to my attention that Netflix are making a reality TV series that is a redo of the 1971 Stanford prison experiment.
The experiment that had to be shut down because participants' mental wellbeing was being hurt.
The one that is used as the example in every first year undergrad course for why ethics approvals need to be stringent when designing a psychology experiment.
And a multinational US-based company things this will get them ratings worth the known, predictable damage it will do to participants.
I think I've just stepped beyond not wanting to give Netflix my money (I am no longer a subscriber) and into the territory of wanting streaming services much more heavily regulated.
At some point, lines have to be drawn about what we consider acceptable entertainment in reality TV. If we don't set boundaries, someone will get the idea that live-streaming public executions by firing squad is worth it for the ratings.
It is fucking ridiculous that Alberta threatens to separate, and now my province is forced to have oil pipelines here.

Do you have bathroom doors where the lock can be overridden via a hole on the opposite side of the door?
Test them.
We happened to accidentally lock a bathroom with nobody inside it today, and the override didn't work because the doorknob plate had been installed upside down.
We found another way to override the lock, but it took a while. Thankfully there wasn't a dog, young child, or unconscious person on the other side!

What we’re up against in the U.S. during this election.
Yesterday:
1. Meta closed the No Kings accounts on the day of the protest. Restored them later, saying “our bad.” But did not restore admin privileges.
2. We learned that millions of people had no idea about the protests because Meta suppressed posts about it.
3. Bluesky closed the @DemocracyMattersALot account for “unusual activity.” (No idea if it has been restored.)
And for months we’ve been watching the fascists do everything in their power to restrict voting rights.
The billionaires know they’re the minority. Not economically (which is obvious) but ethically. Otherwise they wouldn’t be working so hard to stop democracy.
I wanna believe most Americans are good people. We’re fighting for what’s right. But our enemy has massive resources and control. That what we need to quell.
Keep fighting. Stay vigilant. And for fuck’s sake, vote!
