just more AI industrial complex bullshit 🫩

Has this shit ever worked for someone? Is there any other possible outcome than error 422? 🙄

Which dependency diagram layout do you prefer? Curved edges (dagre) or straight edges (elk)?

The latest issue on the SqlClient repository is a huge wall of slop about auto-triage exceeding daily AI credits budget. 🤪 https://github.com/dotnet/SqlClient/issues/4705

That’s exactly where Microslop stands today. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Feels like the #dotnet ecosystem is suffocating to AI.

I’m no designer but I’m pretty sure pull-to-refresh works best when the new content appears at the top. This is such an aberration in the GitHub mobile app. You have to scroll up to the top to refresh then scroll down to the bottom to see the new content. 🙄

So, I deleted a user and chose the backup to dmg option. After a few seconds, the user was gone from the Users & Groups System Settings pane but the directory still exists in /Users. The /Users/Deleted Users directory is still empty. Nothing is happening anymore on the computer. I did not even get an error message that something (terribly) wrong happened.

Apple's quality at its finest.

macOS Tahoe silently sabotaged the login keychain:

On Tahoe and Golden Gate, the login keychain is now encrypted with both your login password and with the secure enclave, which means that it can't be decrypted on another Mac!

In other words, your backup files are useless for disaster recovery.

Ridiculous hardware prices and hyperscaler nonsense inspired me over the summer.

Turn your old iPhone into a NAS with Time Machine compatible SMB shares, Jekyll-aware web server, S3 storage and Git remote.

Back from two weeks vacation. My (work) M2 MacBook is connected to the Wi-Fi but says it has no internet connection. All the other devices have a working connection, so I turn off and on the Wi-Fi. It doesn’t work, so I reboot the Mac. It should be a good thing anyway after two weeks sleeping. And surprise, it’s now booting in recovery! 😱 I try to repair with Disk Utility (several times), I reboot (several more times) but it’s still stuck in recovery.
I’m now reluctantly installing Tahoe (I was still on Sequoia) hoping to make it boot again. 🤞
I regret not shutting it down completely before going on vacation…

« What nation in the same situation wouldn’t have done the same thing? »

Every other f*cking nation!

What I wish would happen, but unfortunately won’t.
1. The US coach doesn’t put Balogun in the lineup. Huge respect!
2. Alternatively, the Belgian team sits down as soon as the game starts in protest. There is no game.

@marioguzman a “Decide Later” button alongside a “No” button? What alternate timeline is this? 😭

Yesterday I had to compare to xlsx files. When decompressing all the files (xlsx files are just zip files), the content was identical. Something was different at at the zip level. How do you identify that difference? Easy.

1. Compare the two files with https://hexfiend.com to highlight the differences.

2. Open the file in https://ide.kaitai.io and go to the identified offset to figure out the meaning.

Here the difference was in the "version made by" field.

This is an excellent blog post that perfectly describes life as a software engineer. I love this kind of post with a few technical details and a brilliant story with a touch of criticism. Hat tips to @CraigGidney

My favourite quote: "One of the frustrating things about modern software engineering is that things never just keep working. You can get something to work, but nothing keeps working."

Without looking at the documentation, how do you expect this #dotnet code to behave?

1. Array.Empty<string>().Max()
2. Array.Empty<int>().Max()

Yes, there's a trap!

For the first time, I tried the "Fix with Copilot" button. I used it for the most trivial thing: changing 'Postgresql' to 'PostgreSQL' in a comment.

And this obscure error happened:
Failed to Fix with Copilot. Please try again. (422)

(I tried again, it failed again.)

I thought that maybe it could be faster than me manually fixing the capitalisation of PostgreSQL in the source file. Turns out it was not since

1. It did not work at all
2. I took that screenshot and wrote that rant
3. I fixed it manually anyway

Shit like that is not going to improve my opinion of AI (which isn’t very high to begin with).

Compare and contrast.

While the situation has greatly improved for iOS, the apps have also become much more aggressive in harvesting your personal data.

“1. Things that are worth doing are worth doing well.
2. Things that are done well require time and effort.
3. You make meaning through the doing.
4. Ideas are common; effort is not.
5. There are no shortcuts."

The Microsoft SQL Server Docker image names all start with mcr.microsoft.com/mssql/server

Yet their documentation is found on https://mcr.microsoft.com/artifact/mar/mssql/server/about

Trying to browse to https://mcr.microsoft.com/mssql/server results in a 404. That's quite a missed opportunity. 🤷🏻‍♂️
