until you're 18, you have zero autonomy
adults will treat you like a baby because so many of them dont recognize young people as, well, people

you wanna buy sth? you better use your saved up 5€ or beg an adult for it and be seen as an annoying dumb kid, especially by adults not understanding your hobby

you have serious questions about sex or whatever? "you're just a kid, go do your homework or something"

you have gasp an opinion? well, you're a kid and therefor your opinion is wrong because i have more life experience

not to mention that adults that arent in childcare professions arent allowed to talk to or befriend kids

"it takes a village" came from it taking, well, a village to raise a kid

if their parents abused them, or were just dumbasses, they had other adults to go to

now? many adults, especially queer adults (understandably) reject kids outright because they dont wnna risk being seen as groomers

leading to, ironically, groomimg being a huge problem in younger queer communities because all the non-groomers left already and the groomers are where the kids try to get those additional needed adults in their lives and well.. yeah we all know how that ends

lets not leave the kids alone, shall we?
trans kids have it fucking rough

i know multiple that are <16 that lost 2 or more friends to suicide.

but sure, lets leave the kids alone. lets leave them alone in knowing they might never get hrt legally. lets leave them alone with the emotions that fuck us adults with all our fancy life experience up too.

being a trans kid in 2026 is fucking lonely

how do i know, other then personal experience? by playing multiplayer video games

most of the kids ive talked to are usually:

    • lonely as fuck
    • incredibly used to being groomed and abused
    • hopeless for the future ("i wont make it to 16/18/20")

    so just.
actually give queer kids space in your life.
try to support them through what they're going through.
be both a friend and an adult in their life to them.
    dont exclude them everywhere.
    show them there's hope.

please. we dont need even more dead trans kids.

signed, someone who is sick of being the first to tell trans kids that yes, they'll make it to 20 and then having to put hours into supporting them and having to figure out how to help them improve their lives, find local/irl community while living 1k kilometers away.

    @schrottkatze so much this!
As somebody over 30 it can sometimes be difficult for me to relate to teens, because things that are totally new and exciting but also maybe a tiny bit scary for them, are totally normal things I have been doing for years (e.g. relationships, sex). But that just means that I/we have to try harder!
I think there should be more friendships (or 'close acquaintance-ships') across generations

@schrottkatze And this thread just made me plan to look into local queer youth organisations where adults are also welcome to hang out (as soon as my move is done and I have some spoons for social interaction)

@schrottkatze@social.treehouse.systems hmm yeah this all makes sense and I mostly agree with all of it but I'm also not sure what the solution is.

The queer community as a whole needs to shift and stop throwing people under the bus for interacting with a minor and then people probably wouldn't be so scared to do so.

Seems a bit like a chicken and the egg problem. Who will start first? It's probably gonna be messy. Also generally the query community would need to shift its attitude, not just a few here or there.

I mean in the past id probably 100% agree with this if I wasn't thrown under the bus for interacting with a minor because if someone doesn't like you it's such an easy argument to make that people won't really look into. It was very damaging to me when it happened. It still affects me over a year and a half later to some extent. I don't know what the solution is... I wish things were different and better but for now I try finally prioritizing my own mental health before everyone else.

Btw this is not made in bad faith, I'd love for it to be better and accepted but idk how

@schrottkatze@social.treehouse.systems for context I got thrown under the bus for grooming for sharing a sfw selfie that I shared on fedi without cw and was fine, and the other point that got blown up is that I tried helping her learn about HRT and maybe DIY even. Unfortunately all I got in return was a whole lot of trauma :/
