Letsencrypt at least opened encryption access to all but when we had the opportunity to say "Encrypted by not trusted exists as a middle state of security" we instead opted to make browsers deadass refuse to even transact in that state.
The two really should be distinct.
So yeah, it's been a bad idea all along and we've been struggling to bandaid the problems.
