i miss group voicechats, does anyone still do that or am i old?

got a few creatures around who we can call with, but i miss the third space feel of a call we could just join and leave whenever.
seeing who's about, leaving a stream up before bed in case someone joins and needs background sound, gaming with friends, sometimes not really talking, just doing our own stuff in parallel.
these days it feels like you need a reason to call a group, like there's no point in just chilling together unless you have something to discuss in-depth. 10 years ago i'd have been publicly handing out my username on 5 different VoIP platforms. now i hardly use one

@crowk it seems to be pretty common on discord, especially among younger people, but we never join in because of auditory processing issues and voice dysphoria so i don't know much about it

@Hearth there's also the "no talking" factor i guess i didn't consider, 10 years ago we were hanging around with a very different crowd. we don't know what most of our friends sound like these days, as most of them don't/won't/can't speak online. of course we don't judge or resent this and would stand up for anyone who gets hell, but it's a shame for creatures with sound as primary sense
