again: the biggest problem with llms is the colonialism

@lgrochal @ondrej @remi @aloxe I feel like focusing too hard on individual distro maintainers:

a) risks playing into the discredited 'rock star developer' / '10x developer' notion

b) unfairly de-emphasizes that it's really PHP upstream who did the heaviest lifting. Updating distribution packages is important work but not really rocket science (I say this as a distribution packager!)

we should be conveying the message (and ideal) that we're a collaborative ecosystem.

@jalefkowit Very nice!

It’s worth pointing out though that Wikipedia has had a “nearby” feature for years, to show you stuff close to your current location. I’ve used it often to explore cities.

@frykitty I transitioned. My first doctor who has only known me post transition asked me once if I had anxiety. I said yes.

Ever since that went into my file, that is the root cause of everything I go to the doctor for. I could show up with covid, I'm sure they'd say it's hormones and anxiety.

“Many of us in the groups being most commonly targeted by the far right are left to wonder if this dogmatic pursuit of the least controversial platform is less a strategy than a cultivated apathy—or, worse, whether our ostensible allies ever cared for us at all if it is so easy to cast us aside.”

Statements like “the Nuremberg trials will be long” are the reason I have zero in white Americans.

Sorry fam, but those only happened because of a lost war. And “vote blue” does not count. Especially when it’s legitimately what got us here.

One nice thing about being designing and building stuff instead of advising people designing and building stuff is that I can just do it the right way and rather than hoping someone will listen to me.

a long time ago, i walked past a boat (out of the water) at the port of snape bridge, which is right next to the maltings, where i was going to a rehearsal. the boat, i idly noticed, was named ‘nadir’.

some time later i realised what a good name for a boat that is, since it is what all mariners hope for their craft, that it can go no lower. but i wondered if i had remembered it correctly.

back for the concert the next day, i went to check, but it had sailed, or vanished into the reeds, like the flying dutchman.

i suppose there is a register of names somewhere i could check, but i like it in this unresolved state, an untested anecdote neither true nor false.

i deny the {fiction : non-fiction} binary.

Because eMudhra is in the news, I am sharing a screenshot of a footer of an email I once received from them in reply to my query about my PAN card (a government-issued tax identity and card). #eMudhra

@lumi I wanted to give some benefit of the doubt when I noticed someone with a number of years using them in a fairly proficient manner.

My regular observations with students was that the decline was pretty clear but with an expert it was not so much so I was pondering "Okay, maybe this is reasonable?"

Then tick 2 months and you start noticing they are getting slower, they are struggling to keep up with peers who aren't using them - consistency problems set in.

4 months in - they are very slow and they recognise the issues as well and they lean harder into it but a couple of weeks and there is a proper "I think I need to get my shit together" moment.

They don't use it and they start getting their speed back but it almost takes the amount of time they lost to get their capabilities back.

Once I made a typo in a search trying to find out why orthodox priests have beards. I found something way better instead.
