After several years away from the project I recently finished the last couple pieces of artwork needed to call it done: Mr. Friendly, a Doom mod where you float around, chill out, fiddle with stuff, talk to the monsters, and do nice things for them. Requires UZDoom, works with almost all existing Doom levels. 2018 Cacowards winner in the Machaward category - which is really the most prestigious award, when you think about it! lol

Ah yeah, I meant to mention! I've started a new blog (with hugo, static-site-generated and all that) and my first big post is up! It's about the adventure of getting postmarketOS (Alpine Linux) running on an old tablet, like I'd been posting about earlier. Here's the process.

Weird question but the Fediverse may be the place to ask it:

If you do classic mac development (e.g. a Think C project) in a classic mac environment do you use version control? If so, what tools/methods do you use? How do you distribute your source code?

In my case all the work is in a particular .dsk file I run in minivmac, so I just periodically make copies of that file and transfer them around. But that likely isn't a good way to share source code with others.

As someone who regularly helps elderly, low-vision, low-English-literacy & other folks who are struggling to understand them manage their phones (I know @jessamyn does this too), I cannot begin to explain to you the rage I feel at the designers & development organizations who foist these UI choices on a public not remotely equipped to navigate them.

The controls are overwhelming, still. They’re couched in jargon, still. They’re hidden somewhere non-obvious, down the end of a four-node decision tree. Fifteen years after I left the industry things have only gotten worse. And the worst bit of all – as I always insisted then, based on my own extended observation – is that *users internalize the blame for their inability to comprehend the UI*.

They wind up feeling stupid and incompetent. They wind up bewildered and scammed. They feel terrified to hit the wrong button, and then not be able to find it again. It’s so, so hard to watch. It breaks my heart, and it makes me furious.

So mac 68k #uxn still has some screen bugs but can run a bunch of ROMs now (at least the ones that look OK in black & white).

I might need to stop and do some more optimization though, since a lot of things are painfully slow, even in Minivmac.

(I wanted to share a mandelbrot.rom screenshot but I think it will take at least 10-20 minutes to render.)

@tbsp recently i had the idea that once 68k #uxn is working i should try to create a laki port to see if it ends up being easier/faster.

(the feasibility of this probably depends on how similar/different the devices are.)

context: #uxn ROMs are working but i can see that i need to do a lot of optimizing, ROMs (e.g. drifblim) are already quite slow (as you could maybe see in the video i posted recently).
