My favorite indie search engine these days is https://marginalia-search.com/
Really good considering it is operated by just one random guy

I missed this when it happened 2 months ago, but https://www.ask.com/ ("Ask Jeeves") finally shut down.
My career started when I typed "how can I become a computer hacker" into it around 2000-2001.
We would be better off if there were still actual competition among search engines, as there was in those days.
I was at the Hot Mess when their last pint of Zipline Copper Alt ever was poured.
Nightmare-Eclipse? Buddy, I switched to IntelliJ years ago
I'm rewriting my dating profile to target scientists visiting town for the American Arachnological Society conference
I'm announcing I'm running for Mayor of Lincoln on a platform of keeping the Hi-Way Diner open all night
The only thing I'll remember about Lindsey Graham is his mistreatment of Dr Christine Blasey Ford. Acting apoplectic at nonsensical details because he knew the most powerful misogynist in the world was watching him. I've never seen a man debase and humiliate himself so much.
PSA for glasses wearers who struggle with glasses falling off or are too tight and make your head hurt
I got this packet of a bunch of different anti slip aids for glasses, and it's been great. some of them are better for extra hold (like when I'm climbing) but the simple round button like things are enough most of the time
I have gone in for countless eyeglasses adjustments over the years, but it was always the same: either too loose or tight enough to not fall off and hurt/dented my head
I was going to install bazzite on my old lenovo ideapad flex, but it isn't supported.
So I need a different linux distro, ideally one that has great support for peripherals (the touch screen in particular). I hear Ubuntu is bad now? It's been a while.
(The touch screen stopped working years ago after a windows update)
SVGs of pelicans are old hat, real ones know you benchmark with Saddle Creek Records fic @ernie https://tedium.co/2026/06/10/gigabyte-aorus-5060-ti-ai-box-egpu-review
This is not actually that hot of a take, I just like talking and want more bi community groups in the world.
Before Pride Month ends I have a hot take:
I don't like that we use the word "community" to merely mean "all people with a single shared demographic trait." Being a member of a community means having a relationship with a group of people who have some common values, some sense of mutual accountability, and some collective project I might contribute to; otherwise, I'm not "a member of the bi community," I'm just "a bi person," possibly an isolated and disempowered one. (Or Kyrsten Sinema.)
Is there an equivalent to “have I been pwned” database that compiles IP’s with compromised IOT devices/apps or routers?
happy pride to #bisexual people
Everything reminds me of him @javaduke
Carhengers, expect downtime today for system maintenance. Enjoy your summer weekend!
In a utopian parallel universe we're getting new Ted Chiang fiction instead of new Ted Chiang thinkpieces on AI
A friend is dealing with a father who keeps falling for romance scams. He thinks he's in a romance with a famous celebrity and cannot be persuaded that there's no chance this is true
Usually these stories come with some sympathy, but I only have anger for this father. He abandoned his kid when he was young, only showing up to sow chaos. I think he knows what's going on, he would rather piss tens of thousands of dollars away on erotic roleplay than leave anything for his son or grandson
