It's the first day of Diwali festivities.
One of many popular Hindu legends tells of Lord Yama (God of Death) outwitted by a devoted wife determined to save her husband who was destined to die on the 4th day of their marriage. She kept Lord Yama occupied through the night by lighting diyas & surrounding her home with gold/silver ornaments. When Yama arrived as a serpent, he was so captivated by the dazzling lights that dawn arrived before He could claim her husband's life.

    Happy Dhanteras!🪔

Idol of Lord Ganesha sat atop a circular window like opening in a brick wall. In front of it, is a ceramic Urli[big ceramic bowl] filled with rose petals and a lit floating candle. Creepers on the left side of circular window can also be seen. Taken after evening Aarti.

Another Hindu legend celebrates this day as Dhanvantari Jayanti. The story goes during the Samudra Manthan (churning of the cosmic ocean), Lord Dhanvantari emerged carrying a pot of amrita, the nectar of immortality. Revered as the God of Ayurveda & medicine, He is considered an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
While Dhan means wealth & Teras refers to the 13th lunar day, Dhanteras is also a reminder that true wealth lies not merely in material possessions but in good health, healing & longevity. 🙏🏼🪔

Now the most popular legend of all, is the one of our dearest Goddess Lakshmi.
She emerged from the cosmic ocean during the Samudra Manthan like Dhanvantari. Radiant & seated upon a lotus, She symbolises prosperity & abundance. She chose Lord Vishnu as Her consort, recognising Him as the preserver of the universe & the embodiment of Dharma.
Their union symbolises the idea that prosperity must be guided by wisdom, responsibility & righteousness. Wealth flourishes when accompanied by Dharma.
