Good morning, Leiden! #PIDfest is officially open.
We start at 10:00 with a welcome, followed by the opening keynote from Felienne Hermans, “Who is making the digital world, and how?” – a look at the people and values behind the software we all use every day.
Then we head out to sessions at @Naturalis and LUMC: grey literature, #RAiD, national PID strategies, software identifiers, and much more.
Virtual attendees, you’ll get to enjoy a mix of panels, and then we’ll all wrap up with One Minute Poster Madness back at Naturalis!
In-person attendees, please join us at the end-of-day Welcome Reception.
First time at PIDfest? Ask anything – everyone here was new once. Feel free to post your impressions and thoughts about #PIDfest here.

Conference hall at Naturalis set up for PIDfest 2026. A large screen above a black stage shows the PIDfest logo with “Leiden, the Netherlands, 27–29 October”. Two pairs of yellow wooden clogs stand on the stage next to microphone stands and a vase of flowers. To the right, light-up letters spell “PIDFEST”. The ceiling has a pattern of illuminated leaf shapes, the walls are lit in red, and a few attendees chat near rows of chairs on the left.
Large wooden marquee letters spelling “PIDFEST”, lit with rows of warm bulbs, stand on a wooden floor in front of wood-panelled walls lit in red.
Attendees wearing red PIDfest lanyards chat in a busy foyer with a wooden ceiling and red stone walls. In the foreground is a table with a sign reading “COMET – Richer Metadata. Together.”, a box of chocolate and a glass of water, where two women are talking. More groups of people talk in the background.
