I don't use them for anything myself, but the topic of postcode licensing (and also Ordnance Survey datasets) came up repeatedly at #FOSS4GUK2026 last week.

There's certainly a conversation to be had about whether various government databases are better for the overall economy by being freely licensed and used much more widely, rather than commercially restricted.
