    Lotta smug European comments on that ICE-agent-gets-shot-by-homeowner news story, including someone who (apparently with a straight face) says that if there were an ICE equivalent in Europe "a lot more of them would be getting hunted down and shot" and just a quick question, how's the fucking forcing-migrant-boats-away-from-safe-harbor-so-they-drown thing going? Or the charging-migrants-who-survive-as-criminal-invaders thing?

    Or even the beating-and-maiming-student-protesters thing?

    We came from you. We are the same whether you want that to be true or not. We have a bigger gun culture here because your governments and rulers sent many of our predecessors over specifically to subdue and genocide an entire continent's worth of people in the name of your commerce and colonies so fuck right off with the "we're so civilized in Europe, the Civilization Center of the universe" crap. America is an extension of European history. It never ended. We are you. Just because you've managed over time to (somewhat) outsource that bleeding-edge violence to your nation-states' colonial projects, like the US, like South Africa, like Australia, (and more recently, to the multinational corporations who still murder for your resources) doesn't mean you ever stopped being violently racist.

    So go fight this fight in your own backyard, where it started. Destroying the centuries-long legacy of European genocidal colonization is a task that belongs to all of us, not just the predictably hideous outgrowth of that conquest, the vile white supremacist project that is the United States. This hellish legacy belongs to all of us and it's up to all of us to end it.

    @angelteeth "If there was an ICE equivalent in Europe?" It's called Frontex. And I'd love to know how many Frontex officers are being targeted because it ain't many. (Not to mention all the individual immigration officers or other bureaucrats who fuck with immigrants on the regular in each country.)

    I honestly lose my mind with (predominantly white) Euros. Their failure to recognise how the hells created in their image came about while they distance themselves from them without seeing how they maintain the same shit makes me absolutely livid.

    @whatanerd

    Yeah the irony of so many folks whose criticism of USians is (not wrongly) that "we don't know history," *not knowing history* would be funny if it weren't so maddening.

    Was gonna write a whole thing about the European deportation (forced, coerced, or otherwise) of the "undesirables" of society leading to an imaginary situation where the outsourcing and outsourced nations can pretend over time that only nice, lovely things happen back in the "Old World" (itself a stupid, racist, yet surprisingly still-accepted term) – but I'm too fucking tired.

    Also thank you, Frontex was what I was trying to remember the name of!

    @angelteeth It's also so maddening that they pretend that shit's not happening. Like, I've had so many people talk to me about how strange it is that the US effectively has concentration camps for immigrants. And I'm just staring at them like, "Sorry? You think it's strange? Like, it is shit and shouldn't be happening, but you think it's strange when places like Italy pay Libya to maintain abusive detention centers for migrants? When Frontex and Spain's administration (along with the Moroccan police) cause the deaths of migrants in Ceuta and Melilla (both of which are in Morocco but are held by Spain as "autonomous cities")?

    AHHH. Yeah, I could probably also write a whole fucking thing. I probably should not for now.
