This is so so nuts: the @earthshotprize.bsky.social@bsky.brid.gy is partnering up with NVIDIA.
By my calcs: just 1 yr of NVIDIA's AI climate emissions undo Earthshot's total avoided emissions todate, several times over.
No other company getting away with it quite like this one

We're now at the point where one the biggest environmental prizes on the planet features language created and promoted by Donald Trump: comfortably the single most environmentally destructive individual we'll see in our lifetimes
Feels like maybe there needs to be some reflection on this fact
Jensen Huang, btw, recently told the NYT that we need to suffer through the pain of fossil fuels like someone who is conscious and suffering immensely during surgery (????????????????)
Akin to Earthshot partnering with gas pipeline company, or a coal shipping company.

The more environmental organisations impatiently and unquestioningly couple themselves to what I reckon is comfortably the single most intensely hated technological change we're going to see in our lives, the more they just burn through years of hard-earned trust. Why set it all on fire?
BTW - I do know that Earthshot isn't exactly a grassroots, justice focused organisation. They're akin to the Bezos Earth Fund - but most people don't really know that. They just see an enviro org doing the dirtiest deals imaginable.
