@Edent We love our curtain-opening robot. Genuinely one of the best additions to our smart home.

@Edent switchbot curtain 3’s paired to home assistant with a Bluetooth proxy (to skip buying their expensive hub!)

Works great on a sunrise / sunset automation and I think I charge them 3 or 4 times a year (via usb c!)

@semaj @Edent Yes! Exact same for us. I thought it was silly but now love waking up to a bit of sunshine every morning.

@Edent Right there with you, the smart leccy blanket is a game changer.

@Edent Note on Windows: There used to be eq-3.de/produkte/homematic/det which work with German-style tilt windows and I always thought it was expensive (to me, as a student, anything >100€ was expensive). Now I don't think even these exist anymore.

I've searched, and the only option for automatically opening windows seems to be a full-on installed motor drive. Usually with no price on the website, because you'll have to hire a contractor to do it anyway and they'll have a vendor account.

@Edent I remember when moved to this place not being able to find LED bulbs, dumb ones, just to lower lights power consumption now they are everywhere.

@Edent Our tumble dryer has Bluetooth and an app. The app wants access to video, mic and contacts. Nope! Instead I have a WiFi smart plug that monitors power and sends start / finished messages via Node-RED.

@linker3000 it rather depends what it wants them for though, doesn't it?
If it can use the mic to diagnose an error code beeped out by the app, that's useful.
Similarly, being able to share control with your partner or houseguest is handy.
Most modern Android devices let you say that the app can only use those things while it is open - that way it isn't always listening.

@Edent Fair points, however since the appliance is Bluetooth it all seemed a bit pointless if I was out of range. The smartplug is fine, without the app I just can't set a program from up to 10m away - but I have to be there to load the machine anyway and it has a delayed start function so...?

@Edent I have an idea for how to remotely run a bath to my desired temperature with a couple of servos linked to the taps, a temp sensor and an ESP32 but i think the mechanical connections would be beyond me.
