Anyone else having issues with #Mozilla #Thunderbird? CPU spikes to 100% and hangs on this. GUI reacts slow & is unusable.
Updating from 153.3.1esr to 157.01 (using Ubuntu snap) did not help. Running this on #Ubuntu 24.04.5 LTS.

Maybe it's me, but it seems Thunderbird's stability & quality has gone down which is not good for an app I use the most on a daily basis.

Back to webmail, because I don't have the time to debug this today 🙄

Created a new profile which is now syncing my mail. Need to find a way to copy over my mail filters from the old profile to the new one & I need to check my settings. This is quite annoying.

Hopefully this works and I can use @thunderbird properly again. Many years it worked fine, but lately Thunderbird feels a bit buggy.

Would be nice if there was a way to debug these kinds of problems instead migrating to a new profile & hoping it will work.

New profile works, but also has quite high cpu usage of one core & spikes. GUI so far is more responsive than before but still a bit laggy.

I wonder what has changed between version to make Thunderbird have this erratic(?) cpu usage. My laptop's fan is almost always silent until I use Thunderbird.

If this continues I will either need to downgrade to an older version and/or look for a different mail client.

Update: hiding statusbar drops cpu usage a lot

I use the Ubuntu snap without issues. I don't think it's likely a packaging issue, more likely something specific you're doing, or related with some specific server you're connecting to, or something like that but without more details that's speculative.
