@cshlan @cherizilla Wait I'm confused, did the scammers spoof the number of your bank so that when you called back you were calling your bank's actual number?
If so, leaving a message seems like not the smartest choice on their part 😆

@cshlan @cherizilla (not that you owe me any sort of explanation, of course)

I have no idea. I didn't recognize the number. I called back expecting to say nothing more than yes, that was me. It was probably stupid to call back but I don't expect I would have given them enough details to use the card, which is what I expect they were looking for.
My guess is there's a way to see the last 4 digits of a new card number and the phone number it's connected to. A search showed me theft is happening before people get their cards in the mail or use them.
@cshlan @cherizilla huh weird. So, if I'm getting this right, it sounds like you actually called the scammers' number, but somebody had taken control of that number and made it play the recording? 🤔 If that's what happened, my guess would be a national law enforcement agency got involved, and you got lucky to call back right after they took control of the number. That's not something that happens easily AFAIK.
I suppose it could just be a coincidence that you got the call right after a new cars was mailed out. The connection between card number and phone number is stored by the credit card company but I don't think it'd be available anywhere else, unless the company was hacked or something and that data was leaked 🤷
I guess you may never find out for sure though. Glad your card number appears to be safe though 🤞

I allowed Google to do caller ID/spam detection on my calls years ago. Previously I'd get an on screen warning. This was the first time for a recording. I'm assuming the recording was replacing the ring tone and if I hadn't hung up the scammers would have answered soon, considering it told me I "should" hang up rather than just hanging up automatically.
But I guess it could have been someone else 🤷🏻♀️

Ok. New funny. It actually was the bank's fraud department because the first thing I did with it was add it to Patreon and donate to GoFundMe 🤣
