Back showered, stretched, 6 hours, longest run, and fastest half and full marathon, now time to consume the 4500 cal burned !
We did it Paddy Boy, thank you, miss you.

I treated myself to a pair of secondhand Shokz OpenRun Pro 2. The sound is very good, comfortable and it's nice to have open ears again. Though they are not Miss MoneyPenny proof. She didn't chew them but she saw a squirrel. Which sets off the "fire" alarm within her and everyone two valleys over will know that there's a tree with a critter in. And having normal buds the volume on Penny is nicely reduced ;)

I didn't do a good route check last night. But at least I know where the local shooting range, which we hear when the wind is in certain direction, is now. I had planned to run right past the farm/range. Sadly this meant that I had to lift wee Penny while going uphill for nearly a kilometer - she was trying to run in all the direction with each bang - while we detoured and made a tactical retreat, because she is petrified of shooting and fireworks. So the route was cut short and became slow as I was trying to find a new route that didn't include fields of nettles and livestock. Managed to second part, not really the first part as my legs are still tickling away.

Here's wonderful Penny enjoying life, looking out something to hunt and potentially eat. Little did she know she was about an hour away from having a bath. Because a few kilometres later we entered a very normal looking and smelling field. Only to figure out 100m later that we were running through a field that reasonly been sprayed with slurry...

After yesterday's failed run, where I tried to go out and clear my head after the crap news we got - I only managed 1km and walked about 2 more - which means that there's a serious change to our future way of enjoying life. It was good to be out even if it was only half the distance that Gunnery Sergeant "Suunto" Hartman said I should do.

Got Milk! Remember that kilometer I lost the other day, well I found two of them laying around. Went out to do so 8 came back with 10 in my legs.
Boy, is long wet grass hard to run in as you can't see the holes or mole hilsl hidden within and the grass just hugs your feet. Had to detour around livestock and a farm that didn't look too welcoming even if it had a public footpath straight through.
Which ment I went right past the newly opened local farm shop, picked up 2 litres of local produced milk. Probably from the ladies I had to detour around earlier. Had a great natter with the owner, who told me that on Saturday mornings he gets a delivery of freshly baked meat pies and sourdough bread, so I'll be back then ;)

Just learned that two 25 year olds died at the Great North Run yesterday. Bugger. My thoughts goes out to their families.
Wet run. Steady pace. Looked at new trails. Which will help for when the farmers move thier livestock around and I need to find a detour around the cows.

I hope the professional runners on here, will accept my reason for not running and training for my trail marathon. I was somewhat distracted with carb loading with proper Danish running food.
I hope that this is to @Lee6 normal high standard and quality assurance ;)

I just gone and injured myself again, in my dreams.
My dreams have gone from full on action movie chaos on steroids, where the heroes need a nice cup of tea and a biscuit afterwards, to suspense thrillers that would make Hitchcock hide behind his Doctor Who themes pillow. Sadly I can't remember anything other than the feeling of the dreams.
Which means I'll wake up in a tense curled up tight ball, where every lim and muscle takes a good 10min to stretch out. And last night the sartorius muscle, going from the outside of the hib to the inside of the knee, was feeling like I had strained it. This kept me awake for too long, while I tried to get comfy and stretched out.
So today's run was a gentle run'n'sniff with Penny, to check out how badly my dream had injured me, in glorious weather until our luck ran out and we didn't miss the rain. See photo, it was taken just before the clouds got darker and utterly dumbed on us. It was still nice mild so other that soaked we had a good run.

Good run around the reservoir in my hiking boots. That is why I live/love barefoot shoes, I didn't notice until I was halfway around. Absent-minded I got ready and without paying attention and I put the boots on, not my runners. I'm clearly what some people would call a fanboy of #vivobarefoot they just fit my feet like gloves and their Forest ESC are equally as comfy to run or hike in as my Primus FG.
And on the photo you can see Penny doing what she likes the most, running on high walls

No picture from today's run, which was done in stunning weather but felt hard. Though Suunto claims it was the fastest I've done this route. Probably because, which is also the reason why no photo, other dog owners. Just a PSA "he's fine or he's friendly etc" ain't a fecking recall.
Just arrgghh.
I came up to a person walking his two mutts off lead, one in front of him and one behind. I came to a halt, said a friendly "'ow do, nar then". They turned around said hi and turned back around and continued on their merry way. So they didn't see that one of their dogs started to run right at Penny. I went "feck it" and started to run to get away from the dog. As we did the dog came close and started to growl and I had to jump it, lucky for it I jumped high enough. As I went past the owner, I couldn't hold back and said loudly - It would be good if had your dogs on a lead, thanks.
Then on the return I had to swerve around, eg run into the long grass and of the trail, while I heard the fantastic recall "he's friendly". Sorry no, the way he went directly at Penny with that body language didn't communicate "friendly". Oh and it would be nice to be told that you had a third dog off lead coming up behind you, so I didn't have to do another detour into the undergrowth.
I love dogs, but please teach the mutts a solid recall, if not put it on a lead. Along with teaching them that running up to others ain't good dog ownership. The person or dog could be scared of other dogs (mine have been attacked by spaniels so don't like them at all, and is very worried of other especially bigger dogs), person could be allergic to dogs or as my MiL not very stable on her legs so having a dog running around, and potentially jumping up, her legs doesn't give her much confidence.

A run in @Wen neck of the woods ;) Jelly that I can't stay for longer this time for more running.
Though "run" wasn't really what happened here, loads of ferns and a bit too much up for the day after a squatting kettlebell session ;)

Managed to get out in a dry spell, still managed to get my toes wet as the grass was wet and I found a wee bog to put one leg into. Crossed path with many people walking the C2C (coast to coast) today and had a nice natter with a young Dutch couple, who has hiked the West Highland way, hiked their way around the Lake District and now C2C.

So the yUK just sent our a message to all mobiles telling us that there's a high risk of wild fires, ooohhh really I didn't know that five severe heatwaves and no rain would do that.
Better late than never, now get on with helping the environment and not filling share holders and CEO pockets.
Another brilliant video from @bennjordan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FZy1lBNykA
Well these rest and recovery days really only works if you actually do some running around these days ;)
Inspired by Courtney's anticlockwise winning run at Hard Rock 100, I went anticlockwise on today's run and also set a PB. Though I think it was more down to that it was bone dry and not the normal quagmire this route often can be.
Oh look @robchapman we are in your old playground ;)

Running News: I just learned about two fun things that happened and will happen. Just from my social media doom scrolling.
A US lady just won her first half marathon race, she was the only one that signed up to do that distance, everyone else did 5 and 10k.
There's a run in August in Glasgow called Route Zero, you will get blindfolded and your phone and other GPS tools will be sealed away. You then get driven up to 15 miles away and the first one back wins.
Well the run didn't remove the depression and sadness of how dirty the yUK has become. People really don't care anymore do they. I tried for most of this week to ignore it, but what I saw last night, just tipped me over.
Going out on a run on the mainland, I would sometimes come back with a bit of litter, a wrapper of some sort and now and again a drink bottle/can. Everything could easily fit in a dog poop bag and a side pocket of my running vest. We rarely had to do any litter picking when parked up for a night and if we did it would be a small amount.
Since arriving into the yUK every time we parked up, we litter picked and witnessed overflowing bins. Last night at a location where people clearly come for hikes or to sit and enjoy their chippy tea. I've just done a litter pick and put a bag full into the provided bin.
A young couple had their take away in their car, open the door and dumped their litter, under 10m away from the bin. And they drove off, I jumped out of HQ and made a clear show of what I was doing but they were not looking as they speed away. A bit later on the last bio break for the mutts for the night, I picked up 4 1L bottles someone else had just dumped.
On today's run I could have filled two 30+ liters bin bags with the amount of litter laying about, heck even broken car parts, just why!?!
Fecking depressing, I'm not saying that the mainland is spotless, they got their dirty spots too and fly tipping, but at least it doesn't feel like you are running through a garbage dump when out and about.

First run after nearly two weeks heat-atus to see if the legs and lungs still knew how to do this thing. Could probably have gone further but didn't want to have a blowout on the first run back. Now I just got to get back into the habit again, run off a few months worth of French baked goods, run a marathon before we return to the land of crossaints ;)
