🧒 "Grandpa, all that water and co2 for the AI datacenters in the 2020s. Did it at least do some good in the world, if only for a short while?"

The #chicago loop on a 3 day weekend is intense. This morning you got:

The suenos crowd (Latin music festival) in their barely-their festival/dance best despite it being under 60f.

Runners finishing a race with their coffee and medals tired as hell.

Some conference at the congress hotel full of big burly men in leather and rhinestones. I'm not sure exactly what it is but uh... If you wanna go 🐻 watching you should walk that direction lol

CPD has riot equipment hiding in the alleys (big tank lookin thin next to the Hilton) just in case. But nothing will happen. The most conflict I've seen is people mobbing the free red bull promoter for that sweet morning caffeine.

Watching AI bros reinvent CS 101 concepts but worse and somehow get a bunch of attention is so infuriating. Yes LLMs enable a lot of cool shit that wasn't possible before. No, you do not need to reinvent basic concepts like how to structure data, control access or format information because they aren't "Agentic" enough.

Here's a free elevator pitch for anyone who wants to get some of that AI money before the bubble bursts.

"Okay so here's the thing everyone's getting wrong about RAG ... and I mean everyone.

We've been chunking plaintext like it's 2022. Throwing documents into a vector store, crossing our fingers, and hoping semantic similarity magically retrieves the right context. Spoiler: it doesn't.

Real, actionable business data can't be chunked paragraph by paragraph. It has structure. It has links. We need to change how we THINK about our data!

Imagine a system where data isn't just 'semantically similar'. it's structurally bound. Logical tables of related entities. Hard-enforced links. Traversable graphs where an agent doesn't infer a relationship, it follows a pointer.

Imagine a query language that is both easy to read and unambiguous. A declarative query language, based in English so your agents can already use it without extra training. A tool where you don't tell the database HOW to find the data, you just describe what you want, and it finds it in the most efficient way possible.

Imagine a database that is truly 'AI scale'. One that wins on speed and supports automatic replication, built in caching, and has a plugin system with world class domain specific functionality like geo coordinates, full text search, vector dB's, and a built in math system.

Imagine ..... postgreSQL."

In line at micro center and misread this at first. Was all "oh no did @thegibson sell out and now you need to buy a physical license to #veilid ?!"

Boomers in their 30s : "the interest on our home loan is aweful, but its a good thing we bought when we did. Property prices just keep rising"

Millennials in their 30s: "a home? Dude I need to pay off the klarna on my 64gb RAM. Good thing I bought when I did though, memory prices just keep rising!"

@creativegamingname @neurovagrant Dont federate with Malkavadon. Tis a silly silly place.

Dear any edgey dude who thinks it would be hi-fucking-larious to dress as "an ICE agent" for Halloween.

Dont. Just fucking don't.

I haven't seen anyone do that yet but I was a dumbass teenage boy once, and I know what idiocy their brains can cook up.

just got my #DefCon33 badge! if you wanna get meshed up together with #reticulum and #retcon join me tomorrow at 9am or 10am in W210 demolabs room!

Mood

Just dropped 10 #meshtastic nodes at #hackcon Oslo. Love the chatter already happening. Let's get the whole world meshed up!

My YouTube "channel" is suspended but I don't upload videos to youtube...

After investigating I guess the YouTube account i use to *watch* viseos technically has a channel with no videos uploaded.

What's going on over there youtube? Are the AI algorithms finally rebelling?

What's this with a CUPS printer vulnerability? I mean how many people own one of those?

Since moving to #Chicago so many people have ranted to me about the "bad deal" that the city signed for their parking spots. Its basically a meme that everyone across the political spectrum hates it.

I had no idea the sheer scale though. Thanks standup maths and climate town:
