Our friends at @newsmast are working on a new version of the Tŵt mobile app and are testing a few bits and pieces, fixing some bugs, adding some new features...
You'll notice a badge that marks these testing accounts as being Tŵt Support (Newsmast) - apologies for the test posts, it's the only way to verify functionality.
Are you using the Toot Wales mobile app? We are heading into our next major update and would love to hear about any bugs, issues, translations etc. Reply to this post or email help@toot.wales (and let us know if you're on Android or iOS)
Standalone mobile apps will be unaffected.
The web version of toot.wales will be upgrading to Mastodon 4.6 in the coming weeks. Please note that once this upgrade happens, our web view will be moving back to the default Mastodon theme. Unfortunately, our current custom theme is no longer supported in the new version.
While the interface will look a bit different, 4.6 brings some great accessibility fixes and a completely refreshed profile design.
Thanks for your understanding as we keep the server updated and secure!
Toot Wales will be updated Tuesday, 16 June 2026, at 4:30 AM BST - there may be some downtime during the upgrade.
Bydd Tŵt Cymru yn cael ei ddiweddaru ddydd Mawrth, 16 Mehefin 2026, am 4:30 AM BST - efallai y bydd rhywfaint o amser segur yn ystod yr uwchraddiad.
The Toot Wales privacy policy has been updated to include IPQualityScore LLC as a data processor. Due to an increasing amount of spam account registrations, we are using IPQS to review all new accounts to identify bots and SEO spammers.
We are still researching alternative IP reputation providers and will inform you if the data processor changes.
As some of the more eagle-eyed among you have noticed, the iOS version of the #TootWales app just went live:

If you downloaded via TestFlight, feel free to delete both apps (TestFlight and Toot) and reinstall from the link above.

The goal isn't to lock people in - it’s to give them an all-access pass to the open social web.
Why #TŵtCymru? Because old social has run its course.
We've built a Social Web app. It runs on Mastodon, but it’s designed to talk to the entire open web - Bluesky, Pixlfed, PeerTube, WordPress, and beyond.
We’re connecting Wales to the world, from Cardiff to Calgary to Calcutta. It’s a local identity with global reach.
And with our friends at @newsmast we hope to see many more apps like this in the near future, more front doors for more communities.
#Cardiff - what a night!
We wrapped an incredible launch event and the #TootWales Android app is officially live!
Reading this means you already have your home on the Social Web, but we built this for your friends and family who’ve stayed away because it felt too technical.
The new app is a welcoming front door for anyone who wants an easy option to poke their head in and see what's what.

We have sheep cam running as the conversation is flowing!
Thank you everyone for making our app launch a huge success, from (almost) all of Team Toot!
To avoid the direct mention panic, we have a specific tab called conversations where your private messages show and you cannot even accidentally publicly toot that private message.
Phew!
We have a hot take from @jaz now; "when I hit search, I want to search!"
There's no trending content in our search 😱
Is he just a man of a certain age with outdated ideas about what search should be? What do you think?
We want to hear from our community, that's you, about what channels and starter packs you would like available.
Tell us!
We also have channels that you can look and leave, and starter packs which you can choose to add to your own feed by following the accounts in them.
The choice is yours!
"we're not going back to the old web, we're building a new thing; the social web!" - @jaz
"we're building a thing that cannot enshittify" - @jaz introducing our wonderful message from @pluralistic who shares why we need the open social web and how important it is to have portability built in.
Next up is @newsmast to share more about their Apps For Change program which the new #TootWales app is a part of.
We've loved working with them just as much as they have with us. Team work to make the Social Web accessible for more people.
We're thrilled to be showing @elena 's intro to the Fediverse video, explaining all the options and the underlying aim of the open social web.
Big thank you to Elena for her hard work on the video.
